Depends... you need to figure out what size subs, how much wattage it can push, and the make and model of the subs.

You also need to know how much wattage you want your amp to push, (you wanna have more watts in a amp than any amount of speakers combined). As well as the make and model of the amp will affect price.

For the head unit.. that depends as well. Do you want to play DVDs? Do want to play satellite radio? Do you want to play mp3/wav files? You also need to know how much wattage the head unit pushes out to the speakers not hooked up to the amp. And make and model also makes a difference in price.

Usually subs come with the box as a whole price. Unless you buy them piece by piece... which isn't a really good idea. It's better to buy them with the box. Even the box itself can affect the sound of the sub. So never buy subs and housing box separately, it's a bad idea.

Overall.. I would recommend Bose. But Bose is definitely pricey. It's very high quality product and sound production.

hmm.. it depends..
i have my front pair speakers replaced with kolk-momo, which was 130 dollars (discounted).
i'm getting my rear replaced as well, with the small speaker units, so i guess we're talking about a total of six speakers.
even without a momo amplifier, the sound in the front systems increased by two fold. i'm not a believer in subs or kickers, so instead i'm getting a custom momo head unit, along with an amp that'll be drilled inside the hatch.
mind you, i'm not getting those cheap units that everyone gets off ebay, and no it's not going to sound like a rattling fart canon.
with a good setup, you're talking about roughly a little under 1000 dollars (everything cept subs).
so i suggest you go step by step. get the speakers replaced first, especially the blown out ones, the headunit, then the amp... or you can be those idolizing honda civics and get a big ass sub and don't replace anything at all.

I don't know what you're doing with them, but I use a sub in my bass cabinet. Its an old Black Widow Scorpion. Sounds great, but expensive as hell. I heard they stopped making them because they were too expensive to make, and the price they had to sell them at was ridiculously high.

If you want something on the low-end, but still decent, got with Alpine.

alpine is good.
not too expensive and it delivers the right sound.
my buddy has the same car as me, but got a new job... his income is rocking every week. he's getting 500-700 a week depending on how many jobs or errands he needs to run.
he has the same setup as i have, he cranks the volume up 65 percent and the nearby car alarms start going off =P.
and he has no distortion what so ever. but instead of just two speakers like me, he got all six replaced, subamp, speakeramp.
you open his hatch and all you can see are mini kickers lying all over the place, i think like four.
good money seriously gets you the good stuff :(

Ohohoho you gots alpine too? Shweet.

Yea it's not expensive at all, imo. Tony's deck was only 150$ or something, and it's pretty sweet. ^^ Oh but his rx7 has Bose. It's so smooth. Damn, too bad it's built in or something.

Yar... Bose is labeled highest quality sound of all companies. I highly respect Bose. Mainly the reason why I stick to Infiniti only.

I like Bose, but you can get pretty good quality for a lot cheaper, and unfortunately I'm cheap in some regards. I do, however, have a bose headset.

Yeh that's true...
I've had my Bose sound system (two 12" subs paired into a custom Bose box specifically made for the 1996-1999 Infiniti I30, Bose Amplifier @ 1,200 RMS peak watts which was stock in a Mercedes, and two 30 watt tweeters) for 7 years now and trust me the quality is still sick. Only thing I haven't had for along time was the head unit. I used my stock one which is on my I30, but 2 years ago I went ahead and purchased the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder's Bose head unit, which gives MP3/WAV play back, DVD play back, and has a 6 disc changer :D.

Bose is my sound god o.o

lmaoz my bf's family has an i30. Too bad it broke down. I think it's a 97 or something.

Acura also has Bose, but I think it's an ad-onn. My sister's Acura RL has stock Bose system.

But then again not that many people can afford, which is why I suggest Alpine. :]

Damn really?... My Infiniti i30 is a 99' and it has 205k miles on it. Luckily I baby her, she still runs really smooth. :P

Yeah for Acura, it's optional to have, unless you get the full package, some of the time it comes with the full Bose system.

Oh his family just drives it like w/e. My bf's G20 overheated and died after 150k miles, but then again it's a Inline-4 and a lower end model, so we all know how that goes.

I would assume the more higher Acura models have Bose as stock, considering you can't really get an RSX stock with Bose, but you can with an RL.

EDIT - Oh but I have to agree with you (I know, shocking, right?) that the car does run really smooth, when it used to run (lmao like a month ago). The handling on infinitis are much nicer than Lexus, imo.

Yep.. since the RSX in a sense is their lower model (Newer version of Integra) the models right above the RSX are the ones that start having Bose systems installed or optional to have in the package.

oh nonono my setup isn't alpine.
when kolk and momo combined and joined together, i got their first line of products.
i said a "pair" of speakers were 130 discounted, so they're spanking :). (i need to buy two more pairs :'(
my buddies setup is all kolk-momo, and his car sounds beautiful.
you know, like momoracing and stuff with exotic cars and what not? it's that company that sells their line of products to them, in car shows, offical races, and other stuffs.
i personally think it rips bose another one, since i heard both line of sound >=]. but hey, thats just my opinion.

i think type-r's hit the hardest for it's price range...
you can get a 10" type-r to flex like crazy w/ a small amp.
