what's the standard paper size in pixels?
i do 8.5 by 11 inches in photoshop and gives me something three times as big, so i look at the pixels and it's like 3000 by something. stubborn.gif
so, i'll just rely on pixels now instead of inches. :]

Well, until this gets moved, I'll just answer.

When dealing with paper size and something to print, ignore the pixels. Pay attention to the inches. When printing, you don't work in pixels. Design whatever it is on the pre-sized canvas. Trust me, it works out correctly.

I use photoshop to print things for school all the time, and that's what I do. thumbsup.gif

The number of pixels depends on the resolution of your desired image.

If you're printing something in black and white, use a resolution of 266. So, when opening a new document, choose 8.5 INCHES for Width, 11 inches for Height, and 266 pixels/inch for Resolution.

If printing in colour, do the same as above, except use a resolution of 300. The reason you're getting the pixels to be 3000 something is that Photoshop uses a default setting of 8.5 x 11 at 300 pixels/inch. That's your optimum resolution for printing colour images.

To get an idea:
72 pixels/inch will give you pixel dimensions of 612 x 792
266 pixels/inch will give you pixel dimensions of 2261 x 2926
300 pixels/inch will give you pixel dimensions of 2550 x 3300

Yeah, basically what CapCaDancer said. Trust me, I've worked with printing in Photoshop, and the 3000 pixels is correct. :). Just use the inches. The paper I use is most of the time 8.5x11 and 8x11. When I have to do a poster, it's usually 14x11 or something. Really, rely on inches instead of pixels if you want to work with printing in Photoshop. It'll come out correct either way though. As long as the inches align with the real life inches.
