Retouches, that is. There's something about making somebody look better...

Anyway, Katherine Heigl at the Academy Awards. Am I the only one who thought she looked WAY too made up? Her MA went crazy with the bronzer. I hated how her lipstick matched her dress, too.
Before:

After:
EDIT// Took Mark's advice and took lips from another image (random Scarlett Johansson) in an attempt for more dimension to her lips.

(Previous version)

Toned down the makeup on the lips and cheeks - I think she looks much more natural this way. What do you think?

Nice job! She does look a lot more natural without all that makeup, which is good. Although the skin looks a little too smooth and perfect, it doesn't bother me too much.

But I have to say the eyelashes are kinda my favorite part. How you do dah?

^ I know! It's so hard to create a different kind of lip when the original is so matte to begin with. Anyone have tips?

You could do it the hard way (pen tool, gah. Kill me now). But I just Googled "eyelash brushes" and found a brush set made by someone on deviantArt (oh, I should credit them, shouldn't I? Oops.) Then I use the Warp Tool to adjust them so they fit her eye. If you want it to look more natural, I suggest making the eyelashes a light brown colour, and set that new layer to "Multiply".

Thanks, everyone. :)

Ooh, thanks! I'll download them soon.

I also wanted to ask what method you used to make the lips more pink and natural. I have my ways of trying to do it, but for some reason I always feel like I'm doing it wrong.

But as for adding more natural texture to the lips (less matte), my best guess would be to implant someone else's lip texture, though it kinda has to be the perfect picture. :P

I agree that she looked too made up and the red lipstick was too drastic for her face.

Your touchup is a complete improvement on her overall look.

I'll try that, thanks!

What I did for the lips was use the pen tool to go around the lips, make a selection (2 px feathering, the image was quite large), and filled it with a medium pink colour (on a new layer, of course). What colour you choose to begin with doesn't matter. I set the layer to "Soft Light" and zoom out to look at it. I adjust Hue/Saturation and toggle the settings (including the lightness one) to find a perfect shade. It's quite simple really.

WOWOWOWOWOWOWW, this is really well done.

I hated her lips too. The red was way too bright.

I love what you did to it, but I think her lips look a little too perfect.. or like too solid? Other than that, she looks gorgeous!

i LOVE this!! everything just looked so overdone with her cheeks and lips.

i've been trying to retouch her skin the way you did, but i can't quite figure out how you got everything to be one smooth color tone? i was using the healing brush but that's usually for spots.. i'm sure there's an easier way to fix her skin besides clicking the mouse 936579382 times!

Yeah, I basically used the healing brush. There's really no quick fix for it (not that I know of). I did help lessen the amount of healing I had to do though, with a few things:
1) Lightened the darkness in her cheeks; used lasso tool set at around 20 px feathering around dark spots, and adjusted Curves to make a bit lighter.
2) Selecting a larger area of her cheeks, again set to 20 px feathering, I applied Gaussian blur...I think around 2-3 px. This just helps for healing to be easier; her pores in the original make it a bit hard to smooth out, so a slight blur helps.

Apart from that, it's healing brush all the way! Occasionally I used the clone stamp because the healing brush does some weird things around edges (gets super dark).

Thanks all. :)
