First off, I really had no idea where to put this. So if necessary just move it anywhere. (Not like I'm going to stop you anyway.)

Alright. So this guy messages me once on myspace and twice here on Createblog saying he "digs" my designs and wants me to design his myspace/website for him, and that he'll pay me to do it.

But he said he saw my designs on THIS website. So I'm thinking "Why didn't he see everyone else's much-sexier-than-mine's work and pick them instead!?"

HE MUST BE A PEDOPHILE, RIGHT?! I mean I'm not that good of a designer. I don't know, I guess it just shocked me. I really don't even know what to do now though. So if anyone has any advice, please feel free to donate your 2 cents. I'd very much appreciate it.

Oh yeah, here's the message he sent to me on myspace, and heres the link. click.

I really dig your designs. I checked out a lot of them on creatblog. I was wondering if you have time to help me out.

I'm an artist/musician and I am in desperate need of having an identity built. I figured the first place I start should be myspace so I a solid design would be in order to make it pop. If you could build a design for my myspace music page and come up with a logo for my production name (Torin), I would be forever grateful. I am more than happy to pay you for your time and I can use paypal for that or send you cash in another form. Whatever is easier for you.

I'm on a bit of a time crunch as I will be promoting myself at the Winter Music Conference in Miami this year and that starts on March 25th.

Is this something you would be down to do? I'm asking you specifically because I like the style of your previous designs. If you are not able to help out, I fully understand. Just thought I'd ask. Maybe you have friends that design stuff as well as you that might be interested if you can't do it?

Much thanks Austin!
-Torin in Los Angeles.

PS, this would spill over to my personal website as well so could you handle that too if needed? I already own the domain but I would like the myspace and site to match design. :)

You're not alone, my inbox is full of similar requests. I say go for it; you're a designer and your talent has been recognised.

Moved to Designers' Cafe.

I get a lot of those too now. If you have the time then I say go for it. If you don't then don't.

He's not harrassing you or anything, he just likes your designs.

Why not you? If you have the skills and motivation to do it, then I'd do it, especially for compensation.

what you think is the best on this site may not exactly be what this dude thinks is the best. hey, i've gotten some requests here and there and even i don't consider my graphics and layouts to be good at all especially since i haven't made much in a very long time. but just do it! he's paying you too - not just some noob throwing a handful of requests at your face.

Yeah just do it if you want, I've gotten a few, usually unsigned bands, and that's for free! Your getting paid too, do it.

If you're willing to spend the time, and the compensation is reasonable, I say go for it.

It'll be something to add to your portfolio as well.

Gah! Well wow. I decided to go ahead and do it. I said that since he's the first person that's offered to pay me, that he could just consider it a donation, basically whatever he feels like giving me based on how much he likes it, timeliness, etc.

If you're confident in your work, a better option would have been to show him a few examples of your work and settle on a minimum fee.

Regardless of how much he likes it, the fact remains that he approached you, you spent the effort, and you deserve compensation assuming what you produce is on par with what he saw.
