Personally, I think Britney Spears' music is entertaining and as a dancer, it's easy to dance to. But every time I buy a CD of hers or mention her name, I get mean looks. stubborn.gif I know, she's insane and all, but can't her music still be good? Just because I'm buying a CD of hers, does that mean I'm supporting her? I just want the music. cry.gif

We all know Michael Jackson lost too many marbles. ...but who doesn't like Thriller?

Is this what you worry about on a day-to-day basis? Britney Spears doesn't even make her own music.

....didn't know that all the debates had to be worried about on a day-to-day basis. Sorry. cry.gif

It's just been recently debated about in my life, I guess. In my dance studio music is hard to pick, especially since we perform in front of such large audiences.

move it to musiccc, then.
I want to see if I'm the only person who listens to Britney Spears (whether or not she makes it all herself).

haha. although Britney doesnt make her own music, i agree. I enjoy some of her songs, even if she is insane.

then again, i dont give a f**k what people think in regards to what I listen to.

so whatever.

i listen to her if i want, even if she is (or was?) in a psych ward.

Eh, usually I don't care much what people think either. Britney isn't even a particular favorite of mine. I just meant in general, some people tend to judge music based on the artist. Is that right? Same goes for Amy Winehouse, and like I said before, Michael Jackson.

My favorite artist is Imogen Heap. Not much controversy there.

Of course people judge.
Our society has never been more biased.
But there will always be someone out there who will still appreciate music for the music, no matter who sings it. I guess I'm one of those. I could care less. Britney's latest album isn't half bad.

No, I don't think it makes her music bad. It's sad how our society will harshly judge someone's work simply based on what's going on in their personal life, despite whether it's good or not. I can't help but admit, I thought the song "Piece Of Me" off of her latest album wasn't bad at all. I couldn't get it out of my head and I had it on repeat on my iPod for a while. sweating.gif

Exactly. No matter who you listen to, people will have their own opinions. Music is judged on the artist, but it shouldn`t necessarily be judged based on who sung it. It can, and it certainly is, but it should be judged by what it sounds like, what it means to you and maybe even what its "saying". People judge artists and they don`t even know these people on a personal level or anything of that sort. It`s irksome. _dry.gif

Good point. Many people just assume that since you`re a fan of the music, you`re a fan of how they choose to live their lives.

Watching the Grammy's the other night, my dad was really angry that Amy Winehouse won something. -.- It made me really, really angry. Just because he doesn't like some of the things she does does NOT mean that she does not deserve to receive an award based on her music.

I think I poorly named this topic title. =P Should have been "artists and their music" or something like that _unsure.gif Oh well.

Amy Winehouse should just be wiped off the face of this planet. She's not crazy, just a washed-out drug addict.

I guess I could be biased as well on the above situation. I'm not a fan of Amy Winehouse. I think her voice is horrible and I don't understand why she's even a singer, and therefore, why she deserved to win all those awards. She does lead a rocky lifestyle at the moment, but I'm sure that to the Grammy committee, she means more than I what I have in mind.

Janice Joplin and Bob Marley and Kurt Cobain were heavy drug users and chose some interesting things to do and be a part of in their lives, but their music is still held in high regard.

Granted, Britney doesn't make her own music, so it doesn't reflect what's going on in her mind, even if it does reflect her lifestyle. There's so many bands out there that write lyrics that are drug related.

edit: Talking about Amy Winehouse, people do have a when they say that they are taking away awards from sports players due to performance enhancing drugs, but singers who are on crack (performance enhancing drug!) keep their platium statuses and awards.

So what if Amy Winehouse does lots of drugs? I'm pretty positive that several other music artists do as well, just not as actively and publicly as Amy Winehoue does. It doesn't make her music bad. If you don't like her voice, that's one thing. But not liking her lifestyle doesn't mean that you should completely ignore her music.

I personally don't like her music either, I was just using her an example.

Her music isn't bad... I mean it's girly music, I don't care to listen to it. But as a person... she needs a reality check. I dunno if she's getting paid for all her publicity stunts or she's just a complete useless moronic human. Either way... she needs to get her life straightened out. She has a kid now, time to grow up and stop being childish.

I know this is off topic but what "drugs" did Bob Marley do other than Marijuana? I never heard of any other drug use by Bob Marley.

Stop being such a condescending prick especially when you're not a girl, and get over yourself. All you've ever read are the gossip sites that are designed to insult every celebrity on there. I'm almost positive that what Britney is going through is postpartum. A lot of women have done the same or worse than Britney has after childbirth.

And ProudLeechLover, no, I didn't. I don't watch television.

She did look high. o.O She looked downright scary, honestly.

That doesn't change her music, though. Her outer appearance does not affect the way she sings. biggrin.gif

Though, I wonder if drugs can influence voice...do they? I don't really know. Does some of the drugs she take affect the way she sings? I guess that could be one example of how lifestyles can affect music.

o.O I don't care bout the lives of the rich and famous, sweety. It just gets annoying when I'm listening to 610AM in my car on the way to work, only to hear breaking news of this pathetic fool who once again broke the law and disregards the policies given to her.

I wanna hear the news about politics, the war, stocks.. not some childish lady who acts like she's mentally ill.

You're gonna defend a woman who drives her vehicle erratically while her child sits in her lap?

And my condescending is factual, just because it looks condescending doesn't mean it's wrong... pull up her records. Within 2 years she's gotten a pretty big rap sheet.

Oh and if postpartum is gonna be the excuse, then they need to hospitalize her til she gets over it. Sure it may not be her fault but c'mon she's not stable enough to be in society... that's definitely apparent.

I don't think you were talking to me (actually I'm pretty sure you weren't) but I just wanted to put out there that I am not defending anything these music artists do in their lives. I think Britney Spears in an irresponsible adult, and that's a severe understatement. I'm defending their music, and I am NOT supporting their actions by defending their music.

Just saying. ermm.gif
