Ask An Atheist Anything., Actually, don't. Keep it relevant. Aliteration is cool.

I find this kind of funny to read. I think it is very reasonable to assume that atheist believe in evolution. There is no other alternate choice unless you choose to believe in,, whatever is good for you? I really don't understand then :/

Anyways, I should change my phrasing. I really can't find a way to make myself clearer. If I can think of better wording I will come back, but all i have is this to change in phrasing:

Evolutionist believe...

Anyways, same can be said to anyone else in the forum. (brick wall statement)

It has been educating talking to you guys. -bows out-

Yeah, that's why I haven't really said anything. I know that there is nothing I can do until I find the correct angle.

So, she has to prove that fairies created the universe but you don't have to prove that god did? How does that make any sense at all?

So, in the case that she was being serious, what would you think?
Would you believe her or not? Why or why not?

If she was being serious I would dismiss it as another idiot on the world wide web.

Just the same as if someone said "God" created the universe?
I mean, aren't they practically logically equivalent ideas?

No worries I'm not a "believer." I dismiss any and all ideas of "God."

No proof.
Nothing to feel abandoned about. If anything I feel less burdened.
No, because there is no god.

Firing-hole; yes. Foxhole? No. Thats Army talk.

Oh, wait, you're asking the Atheist? Not the bored agnostic that often questions the point of even believing that there is a remote possibility of there actually being a God? Damn.

QUOTE(Joss-eh-lime @ Feb 13 2008, 05:40 PM) *
why did you choose to believe there is no God?

I'm not a particular believer in the idea that we choose to believe this or that. More so, I feel that evidence is contagious, and, given certain circumstances, we are all compelled to believe or not believe certain things. Sure, there is psychological selection and a great deal of behavioral issues surrounding, but largely, my non-belief was never a conscious choice. There might have been a moment when I recognized it and accepted it, but my atheism came very naturally.

Fundamentally, I grew up. I learned more about the human experience. I realized that I should question everything that I've ever been told was true. I realized that life is complex and that we don't always have the answers. As I became intellectually mature, I demanded evidence for my own beliefs and found that they simply were not sufficient. A lack of evidenced became very imposing and my faith disappeared.

QUOTE(Joss-eh-lime @ Feb 13 2008, 05:40 PM) *
did you feel abandoned?

No. I haven't lived a single day of misery ever since I've become an atheist. Not to mention, there was nothing to be abandoned by.

did you ask the question "how could there be a God when [tragis event] happened?"

No. There was no great emotional turmoil that turned me from god, sorry.

Most atheists sort of just...are atheists. Like, you just go on in your life, every day inching closer and closer to not believing in God (assuming you were brought up to believe in God). In my case, I told my parents at a young age that I didn't want to be involved in religion because my dad was Christian and my mom was Jewish, so I didn't think it would be fair to choose one or the other. When I started going to school and all of my friends told me about church and about God, it sounded sort of like Santa or something, so I just dismissed it. Nothing turned me away from God; I never believed in a god. Just always sounded sort of silly to me.

^wow, same here.

QUOTE(NoSex @ Nov 20 2007, 07:38 PM) *
It's not uncommon - as an atheist - to receive comments like this. If I had a nickel for every time someone asked me, "So you believe in nothing?!" I wouldn't be a millionaire or anything, but I would have a ton of f**king nickels. At the most basic foundation, this question really holds very little relevance. I'm tempted to argue its transparency - the insecurity and fear inherent in most believers. However, I'll just try to answer it instead.

I believe in a shit load of things, but, to keep this broad and short: Science, rationalism, empiricism, philosophy, critical thinking, Gregory House M.D., art, skepticism, life, myself, some of my friends, film, etc. etc.

Although some of these things may appear contrary - these are all things I hold either an honest dispassionate interest in or some sort of vested interest in. They are aspects of my life that I must, in all convenience and reason, engage in to a certain extent. Essentially, they're my life. I believe in tons of things - just like most people do. I just don't believe in mysticism and spirituality.

Where do atheists get married?

In their homes, restaurants, and even Hawaii, joined by friends and families. Then they sign a piece of paper to be recognized by the rest of world to get tax and medical benefits.

Marriage is about a joining of hearts, or is there anything remotely "holy" about love and marriage that I don't know about? My parents got married in front of pictures and name engravings of our ancestors (out of respect, mind you) and their relatives witnessed. Are you saying that my parents aren't married, Brandon, or were you just asking an innocent question?

Not that my parents are Atheists, but they sure didn't get married in a church to be married.
