COLUMBIA, S.C. — The families of two Richland County high school students kicked out of school for kissing on a school bus are challenging a decision to expel the pair, an attorney said Tuesday.

Dominique Goyner and his girlfriend were expelled by the school board in October for the rest of the academic year, after they sat next to each other on the bus and kissed a few times, said Russell Brown, the boy's attorney.

School officials told Jody Free her son was being removed from school for "sexual misconduct."

"I saw the tape. They kissed maybe two minutes and the rest of bus ride home they leaned back on seat and that was it," Free said. "Had it been anything different, I would have said 'OK you two have to suffer the consequences."'

The district won't comment about the case, but stands by the decisions made by its officials and school board, spokeswoman Theresa Riley said.

A message left for the girl's attorney was not immediately returned Tuesday.

Goyner, who has received awards from Bythewood High School's ROTC, said he knows he was breaking a rule, but was shocked by the response from school officials. He is being home-schooled and hopes the expulsion won't stop him from attending a military academy after graduation.

"It hurt me deeply," he told Columbia television station WOLO. "I was shocked. I didn't think it would go this far, to the point that I would be expelled from the district."

The school board refused to overturn its decision, but the families plan to appeal in circuit court, Brown said.

"What we have here, in my opinion, is an overzealous enforcement of a rule," he said.

It came from Fox News (ick) but it says basically the same thing in any other news article.

This is eerily similar to a news article I posted up about a guy who got 10 years in jail for a blowjob.

The school district says that it wasn't just "simple kissing" and that they got everything on tape. The mom says she saw it and it was only 2 minutes of kissing.

What do you think? I think that our culture is a little to uptight about sex.[/size]

So was it actually making out like it says in your topic title?

But no matter what kind of kissing it was, that's ridiculous. They should have just been given detention or something.

If you're talking about the same issue that I'm thinking of, it was because she was not of legal age and he was. So technically, she couldn't give consent to a sexual act.

As far as getting in trouble for kissing, I think that's a bit far. If clothes were off and other things were happening, I could see that. If the driver of the school bus had that much of an issue with it, (s)he should've told them to knock it off.

That is extreme, the school board needs to really rethink their decision because it is harsh. In general most school systems have become stricter and stricker over the past years, and this is just insane.

So many teens do this in school even more than that and all they get is a verbal warning. _dry.gif Why do these people have to get kicked out? Thats stupid. Two minutes of kissing and you're kicked out...wow.

We had a protest at my school last year because a couple of girls got expelled for making out.
But that was more of a thing against our dean, we all basically called him prejudiced.
Had it been a straight couple, they would have gotten a warning and gotten on with their lives.
But that is off the point.

Anyway, the whole idea of kicking somebody out of high school for kissing their significant other is ridiculous.

I'm sorry, but that is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I mean, come on, they're high schoolers for Christ's sake. They're bound to kiss, and to be a couple. Seriously, it'll be absolutely ridiculous if they DO suspend them both. Cut them some slack. And besides, does it even matter if they kiss? If they had such strict rules, they shouldn't turn their school coed, and leave it as a same-sex school.

BUT WTF. How dumb. Even a detention sounds stupid. Just warn them verbally to stop. It`s not such a big deal. stubborn.gif

Wow. Haha. That is ridiculous. My school has guys pinning girls up on lockers making out with them full on and the only trouble they get into is a verbal warning. My middle school had like six kids participate in a rainbow party in the bathroom like two years ago and the only trouble they got in was that they got syphalis or some STD.

Schools are too strict lately, my high school is trying to pass a new rule for next year that if you are caught with your cell phone out - even if you aren't using it, you will serve 10 days of out of school suspension. (Which will ultimatly result in loss of credits for your classes).

agreed. if it got really wild, then MAYBE suspension. if it was just a small smooch they could just say "dont do that". they laugh, still do it, people dont know. problem solved =]

because really, if nobody knew, wouldnt be a problem, right?

exeplling is just crazy for two minutes or even a full makeout scene on the bus.

Yeah, I could understand being suspended for doing something a little more extreme than kissing. It's just kissing, it's not like the were humping each other...

Expelled is being overboard for just a few kissing parts, I would rather have them kicked off the bus and suspended for a few days.

If they were doing more, then I'd probably go into a bigger punishment.

Its called 2007. 2007 was not a year, it was a drug. - Lewis Black.

We still might be feeling the effects of 2007. Anyway, this was their chance to make an example and they took it. I'm sure they had big meetings together and talked about how if they went back on their decision, sexuality would break out everywhere.

I'm not saying I agree to the whole getting kicked out thing, but having the school do that makes me feel a bit more comfortable thinking that my sister will think twice before doing anything like that.

Stupid.

I hate public schools, and private schools too.

Josh was kicked out of one of his private schools because he kissed his girlfriend on the forehead. At least his mom had a bitch fest.
