technically, if you'd like to battle semantics, kung fu is "traditional" wu shu. People think wu shu (or "modern" wu shu) is more for performance, only because of how it's being practiced today as more of an art form than a defensive or offensive martial arts form. The translation of wu shu is "martial arts" not "pansies dancing."

QUOTE(sparrowdust @ Jan 28 2008, 01:13 AM) *
understatement.
rolleyes.gif

I like to have friends that have been in their fair share of fights; organized or illegal. Those that actually see a fight as the competition it is, normally have the mindset to look out for those around them. It's a weird connection, but ask any meatheat who gets in brawls, street fighter who throws down to prove a point, or someone who feels like he always has to protect, and they'll all have that in common.

Currently, I'm contemplating advancing competively in MCMAP (Marine Corps Martial Arts Program). It's basically Jiu Jitsu. I think its a little lame, though. I'd rather fight someone straight up. What's this rolling around nonsense about?

t: get over it. ours started as anonymous shout outs. yours wasnt even anonymous, nor was it a shout out, it was more of a general announcement. i'm sorry if you disagree; just trying to do my job. Since you were SOOO involved in the decision to promote me, i'm sure you can understand.

i think we may just have different ideas of what is more performance and competition forms than ... traditional forms. haha, i'm looking up random wushu videos on youtube and it ranges from people throwing swords to what i'd consider traditional forms.

---

i like 'real' buddhist people a lot. combine that with mad muay thai skills and you get an awesome person overall. i'll have to wiki MCMAP, as i'm not familiar with it.

:i was just saying that kung fu falls into the wu shu category. modern wu shu is more of a performance art. traditional wu shu IS kung fu.

:lol it's funny how you prove my point over and over again. let's both cut the bullshit and be mature here. you're the one that complains about peoples lives being revolved around e-drama.

i see your point. at the school, they'd always refer to traditional as shaolin and show forms that we'd do for chinese new year and such as wushu, so that's just how i learned it. i guess i learned something new then thumbsup.gif i really should go back there and tell them to stop confusing the children, or maybe it's just me. haha.

goodnight cb.

the federation, because of (chinese) government infuence would like us all to believe that the two are actually different when they are not. personally, i think it's slanderous.
