this makes perfect sense b/c second hand smoke is unhealthy. You know what else is unhealthy? Air! The air we breath is very polluted. We tested the air in a classroom at my school once and it was all kinds of nasty. You might as well say no one is aloud to breath, drive, run factories, fart, or allow volcanoes to exist. |

because breathing in air =/= breathing in smoke regardless of whether the air is perfectly pure or not.

i think it's totally up to the business owner whether they want people smoking in their restaurants. heck, i wouldn't. i've only been to one or two places where it was still okay to smoke inside a restaurant. most places in socal have already banned it, i guess.

um, cigarettes are drugs. the air we breathe may be quite polluted, too, but we can't really help but breathe it. and, not to mention, that cigarettes also play a part in polluting the air. and peoples lungs. and, it's naasty. since when did people ever start to thing smoking made them look cool? ew. i just don't get it. anyways. smoking cigarettes is a deliberate thing. you know you're putting that stuff inside you, know you're probably going to die from it, know that others around you die even faster from second-hand smoke, etc. air pollution, well that's an evil that others have created for us, much like second-hand smoke. we don't choose it.

Shit is foul. In Japan, neearly everywhere you go, you're able to smoke. Newer facilities have designated rooms with the appropriate ventilation too catch the smoke. Those facilities don't smell like a pool hall and everyone's happy. This just proves to me how ass-backwards things are in the states right now. They put a new smoking ban into effect around the Yokosuka area not too long ago. The smoking ban is effective for the area right outside Yokosuka base and goes as far as the far end of Blue Street. The only places smoking is allowed within that perimeter is within the Pachinko parlors and certain restaurants like Bamiyan. |

Cigarettes containing drugs is not exactly relevant to pollution. |

I don't smoke but I think at least the bars should let people still smoke but they changed that and it's hurting some people's businesses which is a shame.

Really? I could have sworn the United states was about freedom. If business owners want people to smoke in their bar then people should be able to smoke in their bar. Period. If you don't like it don't go there. |

I would love a world wide smoking band, where you would have to go into these ventilated rooms to smoke, so nobody is affected by second hand smoke.
But then again I want a one world government... oh well |

They banned smoking in malls, restaurants and working offices here and I personally think it's a lot better for nonsmokers.
I don't think it's right for nonsmokers to be breathing in the smoke and causing harm to their health while they're having a nice dinner with some friends. As for smoking and nonsmoking areas, that's bullshit. Unless there is some sort of smoking room or chamber, if anyone draws out a line between a smoking and nonsmoking area that is completely useless. The smoke will still get to you! I hate how parks here have some corner on the side drawn out and lots of people stand and smoke there because it's the 'smoking area', while everyone who walk past can breath in all the shit. |

They banned smoking here a loooong time ago. I agree with it. Even resturants with a designated smoking area smells like smoke. Smoke travels in the air, so it doesn't really matter where you sit unless there's a wall (or something) between you and the smoker. I have nothing against smokers, but that doesn't give them the right to put my health at a risk. I don't think that smoking should be banned in bars. That's part of the atmosphere of a bar. People who say that smokers have a right that by banning smoking in certian places takes away their rights, I disagree. You have a right to run around naked if you want to, but if you do it in certian public places you're going to get in trouble for indecent exposure. There's plenty of other things that you can do, but if you do them in certian places you'll get in trouble for. It's not that hard to step outside to have a smoke. There's enough things in this world that are already eating away at my health, and it's nice to be able to go somewhere that's smoke free. Resturants would be smart to ban smoking, because after they banned it here places got more families and more business.
