Smoking Ban Options

In Kansas, 27 different cities statewide have banned smoking from restaurants claiming they're trying to "protect the employee's". Somehow, I don't buy it. I believe it's the business owners decision on whether or not smoking is allowed in their facility.

Do you think this is right?

In Japan, neearly everywhere you go, you're able to smoke. Newer facilities have designated rooms with the appropriate ventilation too catch the smoke. Those facilities don't smell like a pool hall and everyone's happy. This just proves to me how ass-backwards things are in the states right now.

They just started this like a year and a half ago in the whole State of Ohio. It's such bullshit.
Not only does it hurt the people that own the bars (a few people in my extended family own bars and it is KILLING their business), it hurts people that work in bars like musicians since the bars are losing money they can't afford to pay the people that work there(my fiances dad is an active musician with a good reputation around here, but he can't even afford to feed himself). Since where I live in Ohio is so close to Kentucky people are going there to spend their money because they want the choice to smoke. It is hurting Cincinnatis economy.

This is like the prohabition back in the day, hopefully people will start to realize that they are taking the rights of business owners and the people of this country and will do something about it.

I think that there should be designated smoking and non-smoking areas, but smoking shouldn't be banned entirely from bars.

I totally agree with what you said. I will admit that I used to smoke socially, but I stopped now that I am close to becoming a firefighter. I think that people who don't smoke, shouldn't have to be subjected to those who do.

Yeah, smoking was banning in my county a while ago, and it is where I'm going to school too. I'm not going to lie, though, it's pretty nice. I didn't really object to restaurants having smoking sections, or anything like that, and I do think this is unfair restriction of rights. However, something can be said for sparing other people's health in public indoor places. I'd forgotten that smoking indoors was still in Atlanta until I want to a miserably smoky concert last year. Granted I was there for 5 hours, but it got to the point where I couldn't enjoy the band I'd actually gone to see and didn't stick around for the encore because it was so hard to breath (and it's not like I'm closed-minded and haven't smoked and am not around smokers all the time). If that's going to be the case, they should at least have the courtesy to sell water for under $3. But anyway, at a lot of shows here I find that people sneak cigarettes inside anyway, and that's fine with me because then it isn't overwhelming. I think it should be more a discouragement than something is strongly enforced, which it seems to be in environments in which you're not too likely to get caught. I don't know it that makes sense, I got distracted by my hair smelling odd.

So basically, I'm pretty torn. I don't like the infringement of smokers' rights, but I don't think people should be allow to inflict harm on unwilling people either (not the best phrasing there, but I'd rather not argue over my diction, thanks).

i duno. i don't really give a shit about smokers or their "rights" to be honest. i don't think they should have any right to inflict any harm on others. they should just quit whining and go smoke away their lungs/pay checks in private out of the way of everyone else.

See, that's my point. I don't necessarily agree with smoking, but since it's legal in the US for those eighteen and over, I don't think they can ban it. It's basically taking over the peoples freedom of choice.
Concentrating it to one designated area (i.e. a SMOKING SECTION) would suffice.

I think it should be the business owners choice whether or not they even have that. I think the only reason that law passed here is because it was worded super crazy.

Pot is very much a part of the economy. It's the US's biggest cash crop. The government feels they benefit from having it unlegalized.
