It's all right. He is exceptionally proud of the fact that the music he listens to is terrible, and he likes to express this by telling me how great he thinks I am and making his unrequited love for me known. Is this love heterosexual or homosexual? He can't quite tell, and it upsets him.

Will you just shut the f**k up? Get off your pedestal and stop telling people that their opinions are wrong.

I happen to like The Shins! Although it's kind of weird that they were being played on a Napster (or whatever it's called) commercial.

I know, I have all their albums. I am obsessed.

They f**ked up their song on that commercial. I was angry when I saw that.

It disappoints me when bands I like sell out.

But, they aren't very mainstream and they are signed to a big label I think.

What about NOFX? They are signed to their own label that they own so they can do whatever they want. Does that make them an indie band even though they take more of a punk stance?

Most of the indie bands I like, are now becoming popular..it's a shame that most people just heard of them now, that they are well known. It's why when I say I like the bands I do, people ridicule me for it, because it's mainstream now. I mean the bands I like, most of them I've listened to them from nearly the beginning when they first came out to the scene.

This sounds so dumb, but I HATE when bands I like become mainstream because I know when I go see them there will be a shitload of 14 year old scene girls and boys there hardcore dancing.

That ruins shows for me. I know those kids are only listening to them because they are cool now and not because they really love the music that band makes.

I think The Shins have a pretty indie sound.

I honestly have no idea what indie is, but if it's all that bull shit on MTV I can say with almost full certainty that I hate it.

The Shins are like the epitome of indie, as much as I hate using the term indie. Er, but it most certainly should not be considered that MTV shit, as that would completely go against any sort of indie mentality that may exist.

I haven't seen that one, but they've been used in a bunch of commercials.

Well, that sort of raises the "what is indie" question again. At least in my opinion it does.

They enjoy a pretty good success now (not that I'm complaining. They're good. People SHOULD buy their albums), but for some reason I've always put indie with a lack of commercial success. Something like that. I realize I'm probably not making much sense right now.

Really? I don't watch TV that often, so I guess I wouldn't know :K

I don't watch tv much anymore (which is why I haven't seen the commercial), but I used to watch more. However, I can't remember what the other commercials were either.

Yeah, I know what you mean, Rebecca. It's too ambiguous. I think stylistically they'd be indie (sooo ambiguous, though) and label-wise they would be too (as far as I know...too lazy to check), but maybe not in terms of success. Though most people I know who aren't into music like I am only just learned of them from Juno (which I'm really starting to resent).

Mang I haven't watched TV in forever. I was considering doing so tonight, but I got sucked into the computer once more :(

I'm pretty tired, so I might watch tv in bed soon. I'd prefer a movie, but I still haven't hooked up my DVD player as it requires an extension cord, and I've used all of mine. But I'm really bad at dragging myself off the computer too.

f**k that. It's hardly my fault that people have skewed ideas of what indie is and that they listen to really bad music. Opinions may not necessarily be right or wrong, but some just happen to be more right or wrong than others.
