I was wondering how people really feel about there friends (or anyone else) borrowing their stuff.

Personally, I hate it. I hate when people ask me if they can borrow something they see in my room, or a CD, or a shirt..

It just bugs the hell out of me.

Because, A. It puts me on the spot, I never want to say, "Yeah, okay." Just because I hate to turn people down (I don't want to seem like a total bitch.) So I always have to make up an excuse and keep lying about, 'Oh I was gonna wear that tomorrow' or 'I can just burn you a copy of the CD'

And, B. I don't trust people to take care of my things like I do.

For instance I had a friend ask to borrow a CD to put on her computer. I told her I'd just burn her a copy.
I've seen how she takes care of her CD's (I.E. she doesn't.) She'll just throw them in her purse (the way they are, no case or anything) and go... I have a lot of CD's (Over 150, which isn't a lot to some people, but the majority of people I know don't have that many) and I treat each and everyone one of them like my babies. They're expensive! I don't want to ruin them!

And the other day another friend asked to barrow my really awesome watch. I don't want her borrowing my watch. What if I never get it back? Or she loses it? I've tried the whole letting my friends borrow my stuff thing and it always ends up never coming back. Hell, I've borrowed stuff from people and never given it back. (That's why I've stopped borrowing things from people, because honestly a lot of the time I never give it back, mostly because I always forget about it.)

Most people I know say they don't care when others borrow things, so I guess I'm paranoid and weird.

What do you think? Thoughts? Stories?

I never let people borrow anything.
Call me selfish but I've had too many experiences with people losing, breaking, or giving away my things.

I hate it when my school notes are returned in poor condition so no, I wouldn't let people borrow my personal things unless you're my sister or an extremely extremely close friend.

I don't mind, I'm pretty laid back about people borrowing my stuff.

I have two fleeces, one T-Shirt and several other odds and ends belonging to my boyfriend that I absolutely refuse to give back. I love the smell of them.

If I don't care about what they are borrowing, then I will let them. However, if it's of some importance or has sentimental meaning, it depends on the person and how much I trust them with my belongings. I don't like lending clothes or technology, though, because most girls don't know how to use them.

I always take my cousins firefighter stuff, just because I am obsessed with being one. My girl always comes and takes my fire tees and sweatshirts because she likes the smell of them. As for my stuff, my motto is if I have it then it is yours. I tend to be over generous at times, but hey I like to see people happy.

I'm usually reluctant to let people borrow my stuff, and that would be the reason. I think the only thing I really let people use are pens/pencils and things like that.

I totally agree with you on this. I am the same way. I always offer to burn them a copy and sometimes I try to brush it off and hope they forget about it and then I can't wait until they go home.

Right now I am trying to get my CD back from my friend who I know don't take care of her Cd's. Thank GOD for Cd cleaners to take off those nasty scratches.

It depends on what they are borrowing. Like borrowing a piece of paper isn't really a big deal. But borrowing like 100 bucks is a big deal.

Eh, there are things I'm completely fine with people borrowing and things I'm not okay with people borrowing. Pens, pencils, erasers, whatever, random materials are alright with me. Worse comes to worse, they'll lose it and I'll buy a new one or already have extras. (I have like a Staples in my backpack..) Money is kind of a border-line thing. If it's a little, I don't mind. But if it's a lot, I'm mostly likely not going to let someone borrow it or I'll lie and say I don't have that much. I never let anyone borrow my phone or camera. I don't trust others with my expensive things. I have this fear of them ruining it or damaging it. I don't have anything bad on there, but I just feel like it's an invasion of privacy when someone looks through my stuff, too.

And another thing, even though I don't mind the random little things that people borrow, if they do it excessively, I get a little ticked off. pinch.gif

Me too. Especially if they ask everyday. This girl use to always ask for gum and it really got on my nerves, so I stop eating gum during that particular class.

I don't play that shit. What's mine is mine and what's yours is yours. If I give someone something, I don't want it back. I'm giving it to them out of being nice.

I can never say no, so I eventually end up giving it to them to "borrow". I'm alright with it as long as they give it back by the end of the day...depends on who it is or what they're borrowing too.

I usually say:
"I would give it to you, but if something happened to it, I wouldn't want you to feel bad. I know you would never lose it or anything, but if someone were to steal it, I would be afraid that you would feel bad."
and they usualy believe me!!

I only let my really close friends borrow stuff and most of the time it's just books. I hate when people ask to borrow my notes. I feel like I worked hard for those notes so I should only use them for myself.

I hate when people ask to borrow my stuff. If it's something little and it's like my best friend who I trust to take care of it and give it back, sure why not, but if it's just some random person asking to borrow something that I really don't want to give to them, I get so mad. Especially when they insist.

I particularly hate when people ask to borrow pens/pencils in school and I only have one left, but I get suckered into it and they absolutely promise to give it back, but then they forget and I never see it again. stubborn.gif

THAT'S SO GOOD. I'm definitely stealing that.
But, I personally hate it when people ask to borrow my stuff, but I never ever have the heart to turn someone down. So it sucks. I really hate it when people don't give me back pens/pencils though. It's not much to some people but it just grinds my gears. Grrrr. stubborn.gif

I feel bad GIVING then pen/pencil back. Cause I have the habit where I suck on the tip of the pen... And I feel bad giving it to them after it has been in my mouth. tongue.gif

"Here, take your pen back that you so graciously let me borrow. It has been in my mouth the whole class. Thanks!"

But I never chew on pencils. That is just nasty.

I try not to...but yeh, I've had experiences with that so I try not to, unless its my closest friends. Depends what it is too. Little stuff, whatever, but nothing really big.
