I sure hate them, especially Walmart gift cards. I don't like being limited to one store. And those gift cards you can use anywhere too, why not just give out cash?

^How does that work if you have to activate them?

I like them. I know my gramma gives them out so we don't buy drugs with that money shifty.gif

If it's a rather large amount, I love gift cards. If it turns out to be a smaller amount which can seem useless, I hate gift cards. Then again it doesn't really matter, it's the thought that counts and at least you can stash the card in your wallet for whenever you crave candy or something when you find yourself at the store it was made for.

Well i buy stuff at alot of different stores, so being limited to one store doesn't work for me. And no you don't have to activate them, i think that they're activated when the person puts the money into it.

One thing that sucks, though, is you can't trade it in for cold, hard cash. stubborn.gif

I think if you buy some stuff and return it at customer service, they have to give you cash.

Well I just came back from walmart and thought of doing that, then again they might give you store credit instead.

I LOVE gift cards. Walmart cards are the best because I can pretty much do all of my shopping there.

More and more I'm seeing people exchange gift cards over traditional presents (for Christmas, birthdays, etc). At first I felt it was a little cold to do so, but more and more it's just too damn convenient to disregard. Also, with changes in likes and tastes it's easier and less stressful because you don't have to worry about people having to exchange something if they don't like it.

At the dirty santa exchange we had at work, I ended up with a $15 iTunes card. Can't say I have any complaints about that either.

My one real exception is my kid. I still like to get him traditional type gifts that he can unwrap, although I did sneak in a $10 Burger King gift card in his Christmas stocking.

I love them. If the person know you well enough they may get you a card to your favorite store. I made sure my friends like the store before getting the cards for them. I've gotten a $100 Radioshack gift card. It came in handy too.

I love them, as long as its from a store or place I'll actually use it of course. It helps limit the amount of crappy presents one can get. =p

i love gift cards! cash is nice, but at least when you get a gift card you know the person probably had to think about where to get it, haha... and free stuff is good.

I like them because it actually gets me to go to that particular store. Usually I don't use them till I need to buy something. If I had cash I'd waste the money on food or gas.

I've only had a gift card like two times, and I actually liked them. I like the fifty dollar ones and the hundred dollar ones.

I've only gotten like, 2 gift cards in my life. I loved it. I got one to Gap and AE from my cousins. I guess it's good if the person giving it to you know where you shop at so you can get whatever you want.

I like gift cards better, actually. I hate pulling my cash out. I feel so insecure when I do.

I hate pulling cash out then trying to count it on the register's table, making the clerk wait. It's even more embarrassing when you have a wad of cash in your pocket then you spend time unravelling the amount you need. mellow.gif

^ same, although I have a larger tendency to freak out when I'm dealing with change. I used to use a fake wallet made of super cheap materials, so all the pockets would be falling apart while I was trying to suavely put away my change. SO AWKWARD when the cashier is done doing business with you and you are still standing there, all while people are behind you in line going "wtf is this girl doing"

but um, giftcards are nice! most likely because I never get anything anyhow

Giftcards have more thought behind them than hard cash does - but they severely limit the amount of choice you get when you recieve a giftcard. Sometimes, I'd prefer the cash.

I don't like those type of gift cards either where they restrict you to one store. I did get one before that allowed you to buy stuff at whatever store. Those are nice, because then you don't have to carry bulky cash, just a card. :]
