I just don't understand the whole concept behind being "emo".
I mean your placing yourself in a naturally depressive situation on purpose just for the sake of being one of the pack, the music you listen to would depress even the cheeriest of people after a while, your icon expresses thoughts of suicide, your quote in your signature talks about drug use, hopelessness and pain. Everything you surround yourself with makes life seem so much more sad and painful than it really is, it's just such a pessimistic lifestyle and way of looking at life, it's hard to have fun when you always think the glass is half empty. Don't you ever just want to step back and say,"Hey, my life isn't that bad, let's go do something fun, or go listen to some fun music and dance or something and just live life." |

It's no argument, just a discussion.
Trust me, I know all about pain and suffering, personally I suffer from depression and take 125mg of Effexor XR once daily every morning to control my mood swings, I overdosed trying to kill myself back in March of this year on Methadone, and in October my father had his right leg amputated because of a dirtbike accident after 16 surgeries and trying to keep his leg for the past 2years, he can't work any longer and my mom has a good paying job but I have 2 younger siblings and live in a million dollar home in one of the most expensive states in the country, my mom works a swingshift at work (12 hour days) and has an apartment in San Diego because thats where she works and she can't drive 2 hours to get home everyday after work so I only see her on the weekends and most of the time when she's here she's sleeping, I work full time for West Coast Inspections, an inspection company my dad owns, to try and keep it afloat till he can get back on his feet, I don't know what your problems are, but I'd say mine are pretty far up there, I've had to grow up a lot in the past few years. I don't regret any of it though, I love my life and I'm making the best of everything I still find time to hang and have fun with my friends and keep good relationships, as far as music goes, I think it can affect your mood a lot, listening to someone else's pain through a song only adds more to yours, you may think it helps you vent, but sad songs don't help you vent, they help you sulk, and having friends who listen to the same crap and feel as bad as you do at the time doesn't help, you only add more pain to each other, it just seems like such a suck ass way to live. |

sorry about all that. i don't really want to say my problems here because half of you will call me a liar and say i'm feeling sorry for myself and the other half will tell me to "go to the authorities" or something along those lines. my mom says i'm bipolar but doesn't do anything about it and my dad's too out of it (and probably doesn't care enough) to notice anything.
but, long story short: i'm attracted to emo boys. |

I'm not here to judge you or anything, and if you choose not to share an experiences that's fine, I don't blame you or think that's dumb or anything. Do you think maybe you are attracted to "emo" boys because they seem to be able to relate to what you may be feeling on the inside, they represent that feeling on the outside by there look and attitude and that's what attracts you and gives you some sort of, belonging? |

Well, i'm a guy and i dress whats called emo. Most people complain about being labelled, i dont really care if other people label me, i dont label myself and thats all i care about. I think the reason why i dress the way i do is just to express myself. In school i've kind of alienated myself from alot of pretty girls because, i'm not trying to be unmodest, but because you can't see me to know, i'll say that i'm very good looking. And now most of the prettiest girls in my school don't like me because i dress this way. I kind of care but i won't quit dressing the way i do because i really feel like a part of me would be missing if i didnt try and be different. There are some "emo" girls at my school who are drooling over me though, but my school is some very small school in some little town in some country called Canada, and so there's hardly anybody who dresses like me, and i'm not very popular so i don't really know many people from other schools so it does kind of suck but still, i feel like i will dress this way for a long time. Maybe you say i won't, maybe your right, but that doesn't matter. I'm not usually open about this, but since this is over the internet i'll tell you i want to be a rockstar. I don't care if i'm in the biggest band in the world, i just want to be in a band who'll gain some recognition and have an impact in music. And most of all i just want to play music all my life and not have to worry about the whole stressful, annoying, depressing, hate-filled world. To tell you the truth i want to cry right now just by thinking about it, but i won't. i never do. Anyways, i just wanted to point out that i don't think teenage girls "LOVE LOVE" emo boys. if that were true, why am i missing out on the one thing i want most? Love, which i have none of right now and would do anything for. I probably sound so depressing but i'm not being fake, the past week has been the worst of my life, each week just keeps getting worse, worse, worse, worse, worse, but i don't care about that either because i can see light at the end of the tunnel. Actually i guess i didn't really have a point to writing this, i think i just wanted to get some things off my chest about people being harsh on "emo". i wish somebody would listen to me, talking over the internet just doesn't cut it. But i can't explain myself at school, i'll just be made fun of. I mean, to be honest, i can't speak my mind and not worry about everyone thinking "what a loser!" i'd rather just step out of the spotlight for now and hope noone notices me. Why can't people just accept some people want to be different? I know there's a whole load of "emo" kids out there who are just trying to fit in or w/e your making fun of them for. I know, trust me, i can tell a phony from a mile away, it's like my sixth and seventh sense. But why must everyone assume that ALL "emo" kids are fake losers pretending to be something they're not? It isn't fair! Anyway, thanks for listening. Please reply.

Um...
Part of being different is not caring what other people think or say. I know I am different from a lot of people in my town and a lot of people here on CB, it doesn't bother me though because I am happy with who I am. I love myself enough to know what makes me happy and to do it regardless of what other people think. I know I am different and I will get shit for it as long as I shy away from the norm. You will, too. What grade are you in? |

Maybe i don't care what other people think, i just start to believe what mean things they say because, who am i kidding, i don't really love myself. I don't want to be somebody else. I want to be me, but i want to be a better me. I try for me, not for anyone else. I think really i just want to love myself, though i'll never be satisfied. If you love yourself let me tell you something you probably already know, your lucky. So i'm in grade 11, you? |

Well if you know this, why don't you dress according to the norm. and just be unique in personality? This is why I say they are striving for attention, it's all about the shock factor of being dark and depressive and having people look and stair at the kid with the eyeliner and weird black hair over his eyes. |

I love their hair and the clothes, mostly everything.
All the "emo" people I went out with/are friends with share the same taste in music as I do so thats always a plus. |

girls like emo boys because they think they got themselves a man that is sensitive. and thats complete bullshit.
im tired of people putting on a costume to make themselves look helpless. to make themselves look misunderstood and in pain. get over yourselves. people all over the world are dying. youre nothing but a bead of sweat off the brow of an overworked, underpaid, starving worker. |

Indeed. It's also such a culture that relies so much on self-justification.
It irks me to see people describe the emo trend as a subculture of 'goth'. I love goths. |
