This topic is for:
-Stating you opinions on going green. Wheather you disagree or agree.
-Stating your opinions on Peta [Yes, I do feel its relevant with going green, eat it if you disagree.]
This topic is not for:
-Saying stupid one liners that don't make sense at all.
-Bashing others for not liking Peta/The green world and vice versa.

Now, with that being said I'm to state my opinons on this. :]

I think its lame that all of the celebrities an like their little followers are just being glorified as that greatest things in the world just because they all of the sudden went green. I don't feel that they deserve to be glorified when they probably do the most damage to the earth. I also don't like how its an in thing, its kinda lame and I didn't think it would bother me this much. Yet, it does, it's like every where I turn its Jessica Simpson gave so much money to this green charity or Fergie sold her Hummer. I think its great that they want to change the world but I feel like its all for press.

As for Peta. I love Peta. I think its a great organization and I think they're doing a great job with helping animals. The only thing I don't like is that it tries to get you be vegan. Like yeah its great if your are but if your in Peta it's like you need to be. I know thats a whole part of their statement it helps imply that animals are friends but they actually make it like you have to be vegan if your in Peta. I mean of course you don't have to, they don't own you, but they really push it on you.

PETA = People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Would slaughtering animals be considered ethical treatment? Of course they would want you to be vegetarian.

I see nothing wrong with celebrities being vegetarians. Even if they do get press, at least it's for the benefit of animals.

yeah i agree with elba.
either way, it's just ur assumption that it's all for press. maybe they actually care about these things? i mean why wouldn't they care, just because they're celebrities?. even if it's just for press, i don't care, it's still a good thing. can't really talk shit about someone giving to charities =/

i don't think anyone wanting to help is "lame"

Yeah I know, I'm not trying to say its not a great thing Its just that, I feel, most of the celebrities going green don't really care. But I wouldn't know because I'm not them and I don't know them. It just bugs me that its the cool thing to go green. Whatever, its for a great cause so I'll get over it.

As for peta, I don't care if celebs get press for Peta. Its the fact that they push you to be vegan. I FEEL, that its almost more of a pro vegan organization than animal, even though they are helping animals.

Isn't PETA the one who got caught abusing animals just so they could record it and advertise it? That seems pretty pathetic.

All of this depends on whether or not they're actually "going green". Are they conserving energy by unplugging un-needed appliances? Are they eating organic foods, thus reducing the use of pestacides? I highly doubt it.
I agree; they shouldn't be glorified in the least. Then again, I find most celebrities to be shallow minded and insecure.

I won't even go into PETA. It's not worth the debate.

They say they do but again we're not them so we don't rly know. They could still be living selfish lives.

Well, we've switched to energy saving lightbulbs, that one was easy. I've tried to take shorter showers, started unplugging my things electrical things not being used and I was already organic. My mom won't trade in her car though, lol.

I hate PETA. With a terrible horrible passion.

PETA targets their videos and their words to impressionable teenagers who want to rebel from what they have been otherwise taught. On their website for teens (Peta2.com) every page says "Question Authority".
This is a direct quote from the PETA2 board.

QUOTE
Dear Rage,
I recently went into my high school cafeteria with a friend and was
appalled to see a milk poster. They weren’t hurting anyone, but to
support milk so openly to me seems very offensive.
And to top it off, they were encouraging you to drink milk to win prizes. I want these posters removed immediately, and I was wondering how I could go
about this. Please help me!
—Milk Sux
Dear Milk Sux,
Wow, how to get posters removed ... hmmm, geez, that IS
a toughy. How does one go about removing pieces of
paper—perhaps laminated, maybe poster board or
cardboard—that are stuck to the wall with, say, tape or
thumbtacks? What to do, what to do ... um, I know! RIP
THEM DOWN
. I mean, hellooo? You’re on peta2.com, you’re
supposed to be questioning authority!

Now, since that may be a little too bold for some of the
wimpier
among you, you could go this route, too, I suppose
(but keep in mind that ripping them down is definitely the
punk rock thing to do
): OK, arrange to meet with the head
of the cafeteria staff and let ’em know that you want the
posters removed because you find them offensive and, more
importantly, why. Arm yourself with the facts before you go
in there—you don’t want them to realize how daft you really
are, so be ready....

Oh, but one of the worst I have seen from them is this. In which PETA tells kids "your mommy kills animals".
Kids are told to "join PETAs army of animal rights rebels" and encourage them to act (even if it breaks the law). They have went so far as to hand out "unhappy meals" and "Buckets of blood" while children left fast food restaurants. PETA even targets the youngest children saying that The Three Little Pigs and Cinderella exploit animal rights.

I could stomach all that, if you have a weak mind then you DESERVE to be brainwashed by PETAs desperate measures. But, the fact that they have killed OVER 10,000 animals they received since 1998 makes me f**king sick. They are supposed to adopt animals out but in their mission statement it says they don't want ANYONE to own animals
QUOTE
Even people who care about animals are often unable to recognize or meet animals' many needs. Domesticated animals are in a catch-22 situation--they can no longer survive on their own, yet they retain many of their basic instincts and drives. Usually, they are isolated from their natural packs. Their bodies and souls yearn to roam--but, for safety's sake, they are confined to a house or yard, always dependent on their guardians, even for a drink of water, food to eat, or social contact.

In closing, PETA is a terrible organization that doesn't hold much sway over people that know what the f**k is going on. They use scare tactics, law breaking, and edginess to draw people in rather than the facts.

I am against abusing animals.
I am also against making over 25 million dollars a year because of it.

^ think your right Missfits, I think they just can't see what their real statement is in all of this so they keep adding more.
This is something I took from wiwkipedia
I thought some people might want to read it:
QUOTE
PETA was criticized in 2005 when police discovered that at least 80 animals had been euthanized and left in area dumpsters over the course of a month. Two PETA employees approached a dumpster in a van registered to PETA and left behind 18 dead animals. Thirteen more were found inside the van. The animals had been euthanized by the PETA employees immediately after taking them from shelters in Northampton and Bertie counties.[87] In a 2005 column in the San Francisco Chronicle, PETA’s director of the Domestic Animals Issues stated that PETA began euthanizing animals in some rural North Carolina shelters by injection after it found that the shelters were killing unwanted animals with rifles and dilapidated gas chambers, both of which they claim are inhumane ways to kill animals.[88] Officials from both counties said they were under the impression that the animals would be euthanized only if a home could not be found for them, and after being fully evaluated by a veterinarian. Both counties suspended their agreements with PETA after the incident.[89]

Among the bodies in the dumpster were a cat and two of her kittens, given to PETA by veterinarian Patrick Proctor of Ahoskie Animal Hospital. According to Proctor, the two kittens were very adoptable, and he said the PETA employees claimed they would have no trouble finding homes for them.[90][91][92] In an interview with CNN, Ingrid Newkirk said that Proctor — who himself carries out euthanasia on behalf of PETA — was not present when the kittens were removed and was therefore not in a position to know what PETA's employees had said. Newkirk added that it was unlikely the employees said they could find homes for the animals, given that the veterinarian's assistant handed the animals to PETA precisely because she knew homes could not be found. "If the veterinarian couldn't find homes for a few kittens and a cat, which is surprising, if they have clients coming in, then that's why they called us, because they know we don't have a magic wand either," Newkirk told CNN. [91]

PETA condemned the dumping as against their policy, and suspended one of the employees involved for 90 days. Police charged the two employees with 31 felony counts of animal cruelty and eight misdemeanor counts of illegal disposal of dead animals. [93] In October, these charges were dropped, and replaced with 42 combined counts of animal cruelty, and 3 counts of "obtaining property under false pretense". [94][95] In the trial, which began on January 22, 2007, [96] both workers were acquitted of all charges, including animal cruelty charges, except a misdemeanor count for improper disposing of the euthanized animals. [7]

In May 2007, the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) started investigations of how PETA handles euthanasia drugs.[97] According to the DEA, PETA could face fines or sanctions against its license if it finds any wrongdoing, while gross mishandling of drugs could lead to criminal charges.

And I found this at Petakillsanimal.com lol:
QUOTE
1) PETA president and co-founder Ingrid Newkirk has described her group’s overall goal as “total animal liberation.” This means no meat, no milk, no zoos, no circuses, no wool, no leather, no hunting, no fishing, and no pets (not even seeing-eye dogs). PETA is also against all medical research that requires the use of animals.
2) Despite its constant moralizing about the “unethical” treatment of animals by restaurant owners, grocers, farmers, scientists, anglers, and countless other Americans, PETA has killed over 14,400 dogs and cats at its Norfolk, Virginia headquarters. During 2005, PETA put to death over 90 percent of the animals it collected from members of the public.

3) PETA has given tens of thousands of dollars to convicted arsonists and other violent criminals. This includes a 2001 donation of $1,500 to the North American Earth Liberation Front (ELF), an FBI-certified “domestic terrorist” group responsible for dozens of firebombs and death threats. During the 1990s, PETA paid $70,200 to an Animal Liberation Front (ALF) activist convicted of burning down a Michigan State University research laboratory. In his sentencing recommendation, a federal prosecutor implicated PETA president Ingrid Newkirk in that crime. And PETA vegetarian campaign coordinator Bruce Friedrich told an animal rights convention in 2001 that “blowing stuff up and smashing windows” is “a great way to bring about animal liberation.”

4) PETA activists regularly target children as young as six years old with anti-meat and anti-milk propaganda, often waiting outside their schools to intercept them as they walk to and from class-without notifying parents. One piece of kid-targeted PETA literature tells small children: “Your Mommy Kills Animals!” PETA brags that its messages reach over 2 million children every year, including thousands reached by e-mail without the permission of their parents. One PETA vice president told the Fox News Channel’s audience: “Our campaigns are always geared towards children, and they always will be.”

5) PETA has used a related organization, the PETA Foundation, to fund the misnamed Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), a deceptive animal rights group that promotes itself as an unbiased source of medical and nutritional information. PCRM's president also serves as president of the PETA Foundation.

6) PETA runs campaigns seemingly calculated to offend religious believers. One entire PETA website is devoted to the claim-despite ample evidence to the contrary-that Jesus Christ was a vegetarian. PETA holds protests at houses of worship, even suing one church that tried to protect its members from Sunday-morning harassment. Its billboards taunt Christians with the message that hogs “died for their sins.” PETA insists, contrary to centuries of rabbinical teaching, that the Jewish ritual of kosher slaughter shouldn't be allowed. And its infamous “Holocaust on Your Plate” campaign crassly compares the Jewish victims of Nazi genocide with farm animals.

7) PETA has repeatedly attacked research foundations like the March of Dimes, the Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and the American Cancer Society, because they support animal-based research that might uncover cures for birth defects and life-threatening diseases. PETA president Ingrid Newkirk has said that “even if animal research resulted in a cure for AIDS, we would be against it.”

Yeah, it's terrible. I really hope people think about shit like that before they give a big corporation their money.

I think hating PETA makes people think I hate animals, and that's not true at all. I eat meat and I like it, call me a monster but it's human nature to have a carnivorous taste. I make fun of vegetarians and vegans, but it's all in good fun. My fiance has recently decided he is going back to vegetarianism, and I am pleased as punch.

The only downside is boca burgers with onion flavors make me sick. pinch.gif
