Hey, anyone want to find me a map of the epicenter? Because I was under the impression that it occurred in Alum Rock, CA - a completely different town than San Jose. But now people are telling me it happened in the Alum Rock area of San Jose, which is like, two minutes from where I am.

Mercury News has good info. And a picture! Apparently, it happened in the Sierra mountains.

Two weeks ago, earthquake experts gathered in a Hayward museum and pointed out that the Hayward Fault has a major earthquake every 140 years.

This October marks year 139.

An aftershock occurred at 8:22 p.m. The magnitude 1.3 microquake occurred five miles north-northeast of Alum Rock, which is about nine miles northeast of San Jose City Hall.

That was followed by at least 10 more aftershocks, the biggest of which was magnitude 2.1, all in the same general area.

LOL. The earthquake is the big buzz, it's all over my friend's AIM msg's/myspace bulletins/facebook/etc.

You know, the earthquake's magnitude was quite huge in this area cuz I don't think I've ever encountered this high magnitude in SJ. I felt minor ones but today was really strong compared to others. The aftershock would be really scary.

My friend who was at marching band at Independence HS, and they felt the earthquake. I wonder how it was like, if they fell on the ground while their playing or something. lol.

^Oh, me too. For entirely different reasons, but I am freakishly scared that the entire house will randomly start shaking at any moment. At which I now I officially where the fck to go, as opposed to the earlier when I took steps into the kitchen, figuring the worst thing could fall on me where the boxes of cereal above the refrigerator. Turns out, the fridge could fall, too. Heh.

I felt an after shock at that time but it wasn't very strong. Just a little shaky.

Errr, my mom won't shut up. She's all mad and scared and ANNOYING at the same time. She's freaking out and kept telling me there might be a 7.0 earthquake (LIES! It's a possible chance for a 6.3/6.4 but thats rarely) and she's all scared & shyt. Telling me to run if it happens and stuff. Errr SHES GETTING ANNOYING. It's like HELLO! I'M NOT STOOPID. I KNOW WHAT TO DO FOR AN EARTHQUAKE. Maybe I'll just stay still LOL. Only if it's not like crazy and not out of control. =/ Errrr...............

Tornados get some warning... earthquakes can't be predicted.

I lived down south with the 6.6 hit, it broke my TV which bummed me out, but other than broken tile and mirrors and dishes it wasn't terrible... at least for me. In Paso Robles major buildings collapsed and two people died.

I think Northern California and the Bay Area are more prepared for major earthquakes, on the central coast I feel like we just don't want to think about them.

After that one we've generally had at least one large earthquake a year, nothing more than a 4 though.

I live in Santa Cruz by myself though now, I thought my house was gonna tumble down the mountain when that one hit two weeks ago. When it was over I just thought it was kinda lame. Nothing broke, the power didn't go out, the water still worked, the phones were still on.

Sheesh.
