So I read this quote today that said...

"You don't just stop loving someone. It's either you love them less or
you've never loved them at all."

Do you think that it's true? Is it possible to just stop loving someone completely? The whole concept of "stop loving someone you've loved" seems pretty interesting to me. Don't know why.

Sorry if you think this topic belongs somewhere else.

of course it stops. why do a lot of people break up or get divorced? because they're not in love with each other anymore.

Yes. I think that love does stop. I agree with misoshiru. Nothing can last forever, but that quote is true though. :P

It depends on what kind of love. If all love stops why do people die of broken hearts?
If love stops why do people stay married for 50+ years?
Sometimes when people have a spouse that dies young, they never marry again. If they never stop loving that person, it wouldn't matter.

It depends SO much on the relationship. I think that if two people nurture a relationship, take care of each other, and are actually in love that love can last a lifetime or longer.

When my dad died I was very sad, and asked my mom a question although I don't remember it now she told me that when you are really really love someone you never stop loving them, that not even death could stop her from loving my dad or stop my dad from loving her or my sisters and I. I don't believe in heaven or anything like that, but I know that she will never stop loving or missing my dad and I like to believe that he will never stop loving her or me as well.

If it's true love, it doesn't stop. It's sad, though, when the other person brings it to a halt. If one person truly loved another person, but that person thought they loved them and they broke up because of that other person.

I don't think you can love someone less, yes you may have hard times but that doesn't mean you love them less. I think love can stop, yes. Nothing lasts forever, even though many people wish things did. Although honestly now a days with the common misconception of what love is, many people experience the whole getting love confused with like.

Are you that one guy whose head looks like a perfect sphere that's about 60% the size of what a normal head should be like?

I agree completely. I broke up with my boyfriend and he has tried to get with girls but me and my new boyfriend still pain him because he still loves me.

I don't think when you're IN love [true love] stops. Love does though. You can love a friend. Love is a general term but IN love is a deep inside affectionate heart to heart love.. doesn't end. That's how dying from broken hearts happens and how old people never marry.

I dont know if that makes sense but it did to me.

love stops after a while, true love will stop after a few years, unconditional love that our parents hold for us will never stop.
the task that a person must face is finding that right person to show their unconditional love to, and that type of love in my opinion is the most pain-staking love imaginable.
the longest, true lasting, yet the most painful.
but in the end, it has it's rewards.

I think that something is always left when you truly loved someone. It may not be as strong as it was, and you don't even have to like them.

My uncle once told me he never forgot his first love. They were together from high school till he was 22. He's married and everything now, but he can't see her as just another normal person. He doesn't love or like her anymore, but yeah.

So I guess in a way, it doesn't end. Although the feeling of being "in love" does go away.
