Do you ever have a moment when you feel physically ugly? You see these magazines full of attractive models, and then compare yourself. You wished you were good-looking as them. All of the sudden, the mirror was pulled out with your hand, looking at yourself, and wondering which features you want to alter … or maybe things you desire. At the same time, there's a sad droopy face in that mirror which ... looks even worse.

How do you feel about it? The world is full of media attention. Plastic surgeries are on the rise. Male are increasingly noticeable in the surgeon's office. Fashionable women and men are competing for the jobs with their looks. Image is everything and plays a huge role in being hired. Imagine the shallowness of this crazy world can be …

Open your eyes, where is our identity?

Wow. That was so deep and ever so true. Everywhere you go, there will always be a thirst for perfection. >_< its just cause there's always intimidation. There are days where I just wanna hide in a box and come out when I have something nice to show. That darn media. It makes us something we shouldn't.

Definitely but then again, I love who I am and how I look so it doesn't really bother me. Comparing yourself to someone is disastrous.

Image is everything nowadays. But it's not just about who's "pretty" or "ugly". People judge you by the way you dress and the peircings or tattoos you have. It's kind of sad. Everyone's idea of beauty is different... no one can say what makes someone good looking. Sadly, the mass media is trying to tell everyone what to consider attrative. I'm glad that I'm not starving myself to look like someone I'm not. It's human nature to compare yourself to other people.

i'm totally superficial. but if it comes to getting attention from guys, it doesn't matter. i live in fricken WI, not cali. so there isn't going to be plastic boobs everywhere, etc etc. lol...

plus i NEVER look at a girl in a magazine and think, "ugh she's so lucky. i wish i looked lik her." because they edit everything to death. that's why candid celebrity photos on the street are better if someone wants to "compare".

I'm going to invite criticism by being very egotistical here, but no. I compare and usually find others, rather than myself, lacking. I'm very secure with my looks and my abilities; but it wasn't always this way! Mine is the Ugly Duckling story.

I don't think I am ugly. I focus on what I have (like pretty eyes, or a nice body whistling.gif )rather than what I don't have.

I also think that I look different from a lot of people, especially models. I dye my hair crazy colors, I have lots of tattoos. I think it's things like that, my individuality, that makes me MORE beautiful than those paper thin, plastic, girls that the media wants me to look like.

I feel the same way as yanlin and elba. pinch.gif

There's so much pressure to be thin, tall, pretty/handsome, physically proportionate, etc. It's as if anything can be bought with money nowadays. Yea I feel the pressure and very ugly in other people's eyes. pinch.gif But I say that as in my image of myself. I don't constantly tell people I think I'm ugly, etc. I hate when people say they're fugly and blah blah blah and they're so pretty. It's as if they're fishing for compliments.

BLEH.

BLEH.

As much as I agree with that, it's not always the case. I have so much pressure to lose weight. And I hate it, absolutely HATE it when I'm in the U.S. and people keep telling me that I shouldn't be on a diet. Because they don't understand that ultimately, I will return to Asia where girls there are naturally so much skinnier than I am. I tell people that I'm on a diet not to fish for compliments, because I really do feel bad about the way I look.

That's why I tend not to hang out with girls who droll over those colorful magazines of hot Asian guys. I don't know what a attractive guy looks like to a girl so I really don't let this kind of stuff bother me. For example, the guys on Tungs and Majere avis, they make me feel decent when I wake up.

Wow, that was so true. _smile.gif I don't really let the media such as magazines and the way others look affect my personal view of me. I mean some days I do feel ugly and fat but its not because of the media, but I do see how it will affect others and how it does anyway. Theres articles everywhere that talk about this and how more and more teens are way to skinny and crap yadda yadda.

That is exactly how I feel! I feel like crap when I go to Hong Kong every year. I don't think I'm fat, but I know that I'm not skinny...in North America I feel pretty normal. When I go to Hong Kong, though, all the girls are so skinny! It makes me self-conscious.

My mom likes to make me feel better by telling me that I have boobs, and they don't. So that brings my spirits up a bit, haha.

haha. Well it's nice to know that your mom's supportive. btw, we should meet up in HK sometime :D
My mother tries to sugarcoat her words, but I know that she thinks that I'm fat. And my aunt has also told me that at my height, if I were over 125 lbs, I should definitely start losing weight.

So do I stubborn.gif If someone says to me, "Oh god I'm so fat" I just say.. "Hah, yeah actually"
Lol not really but I often feel the urge to agree with them rather than trying to convince them, "Oh honey, trust me you've never looked so perfect!"

But nowadays it is getting harder to not turn around and compare yourself to the person standing next to you. I dunno about everyone else but thats how it feels shrug.gif
I'm occasionally unhappy with how I look, but I try be happy with what I've got.

Mmmm yea, same here. Haha my comment was geared towards prettiness as in facial features, I guess, :P But yea I also feel the pressure. My father always makes a comment about how thick my legs and arms are. I don't have cellulite or anything, but having my father rag on me about my legs and arms made me mentally imagine myself as fat. Yea people do compliment me and say that I'm thin, but I can also say that you're pretty thin as well. But yea if I were to go to Asia, I'd also feel overweight. I mean, even Tony's wrist is smaller than mines, and he's a GUY! I also have thick ankles, so I usually ONLY wear pants (mainly jeans) with heels to hide them. sad.gif Even when I'm at UCSD, there's so many tall and thing asian girls, or some really short, petite and skinny asian girls as well. There's so much pressure. I'm always weighing myself and sometimes I feel so guilty that I only eat 1 meal a day or nothing at all, and just drink something, if I gain a pound or two. Sometimes I tell people I'm on a diet, sometimes I don't.

I agree with Christina, Elba, etc...I'm sorry I'm superficial sometimes, but I can't help it. pinch.gif There really is a lot of pressure and its not like I think I'm ugly but its just I know a lot of girls with great body thanks to dance or whatever and it does make me feel inadequate or bigger or whatever but I know I'm not fat...but I don't know. I have better days than others.
