So a few weeks ago, I brought up this idea backstage, and people seemed to like it. Since this is something that needs to be started ASAP, I figured I'd go ahead and mention it out here.

An advent calendar is usually a box-type calendar with a door for each day of the month of December leading up to Christmas. You open up a new door each day, and behind each door is a treat or surprise.

My thought is for CB, the actual calendar would be a hosted page (Holly also brought up the idea of using a CB profile). Each day, a new link would be revealed, and "behind" each link would be a contribution by someone in the community. I was thinking that we could do this in groups - friends, CB clubs, etc. Hell, CBC could even come up with a collective entry. Of course, individual people could make their own entries, if they prefer to work by themselves.

There would be, of course, 24 slots open. I figure the one for Christmas Day could be a staff entry, but that's up for discussion. So anyway, what would we expect out of your entry? This is what I was thinking, and this is where group work comes in:

A few people decide to do December 5th. They're in an AIM chat and come up with a basic idea for their entry. They decide that one person will be in charge of the design, and will make something Christmas-y in photoshop based on their idea. Another person will write up the words that the designer will put on top of (or underneath) his/her finished work. Since each submission will get its own page (if needed, I can host that), each member of the group can write his/her own little message, and if they want, they can include background music, etc. The idea is that when their link shows up on the Advent Calendar page on December 5th, anyone who visits will click on the link, and find this contribution made up of all these little parts from each person in the group.

So anyway, pending interest from the community, I'm going to include 24 slots below. Post in this thread if you'd like a specific day, and let's try to get all 24 slots filled ASAP so you have plenty of time to work on your submission. We're also working on (digital) prizes for those who contribute, as well as the possibility of a contest for the design of the main calendar page. Holly will update you guys on that situation when it develops.

The list:

1.
2.
3.

This idea isn't going to work. Sure, a few of the dates may be filled and some members may actually complete their given task. However, for the most part, it's going to remain incomplete and a total failure. It's just too much of a task or a project for a cB community as of right now to complete.

Just my two cents.
We'll see what happens. :)

Hmm, well...

If it's too much work then maybe it would be easier to use the CB Forum Calendar. People can create topics for the respective date.

Too bad the Calendar can't be customized.

^ I think it's described pretty well, have you read this example:

For the structure of the layout, Dani had something like this in mind:

A CB profile layout. Since using a CB subdomain probably isn't likely, we'll use a CB account with the calendar on the profile layout.

Michelle - Yeah, Holly thought of the idea for it to be hosted on a CB profile. I think that'll be pretty cool. Also, the design of the main calendar layout is going to be a contest. :)

That's an extremely half-assed version of how I pictured the main calendar page to look.

As far as specific entries it could seriously just be a graphic image that's holiday-related with a little message from you to the community wishing them happy holidays.

edit; Sorry, I can say it's half-assed because I did it before running out the door to go to class. xD

Okay you guys don't make fun but it was December 1st and I was excited (I think this was like 2005) so I posted this at another forum. It was just something goofy to get people excited about the holidays, but something like this could work as an entry (thumbed):

If it is just a picture, the new page would hold only the picture, but people are given liberties as far as writing their own code for the entry, etc, if they want.
