Free + legal = Impossible

You have to pay for the licensing and everything. Anything on the internet is going to be illegal.

Agreed.

Truthfully, I've been using Limewire for months now, and I love it. I get a few song errors now and then, but I haven't gotten any computer viruses, and it's free thumbsup.gif

Limewire is actually a safe program though.

It's just what you download is the cause of your computer infection.

I don't download off of Limewire anymore.
Although I found a free Limewire Pro version that works so much better.
I just rip off websites and download .zip/.rar files from LJ communites and places like Etc. Forums and the like.
I'm so illegal. 8)

I don't know. I wouldn't really recommend downloading programs. I've tried before, but just gave up on it. Not only does it take forever, there are also plenty of spaces someone can hide a virus in all the components it takes to make up a program.

No, I don't think you should.
I think rather you should find a cracked version online or have a test trial for one of the versions that you want and find the keygen.
I do that with other programs. :]

Well not only is limewire illegal you do have a chanc on downloading some nasty viruses on your computer any hoo I go to myflashfetish and then I use the whole code once I find the url for a song that I like I don't think that it is legal but your more likely to not have anything traced back to you computer because that same file can be reached by thousands of other computers because it is used in flash players on websites.

i've had limewire for years now.

it never crashed my computer.
it never caused any problems.

my advice is do NOT share anything you download.
and get some good virus protection, i go with norton.

I would use Itunes for all my needs for music but i don't have a dollar per song.

that's my point exactly.
some people just dont have a dollar to spend on a song.

think about it- filling an ipod up would cost a minimum of $300 (excluding the fact that you may allready own cd's)

that's $300 i dont have.

and i heard somewhere that limewire is legal, because it is a sharing program. it thus becomes illegal once you start to profit from it.

about the viruses: never download files from the internet with ".exe" in anypart of the name.

ever.

thats incorrect.
exe extension is commonly used for downloading software.

you just said that every software with the exe extension on the internet has a virus.
no.

misscomunication.

when i said dont download an .exe file, i meant from limewire.

EVERY time i've tried it, i've gotten well over a dozen things saying i have a virus, not saying i'm susciptible.

but i've downloaded .zip files a million times, and i've yet to get a virus

so basically i figure the theroy "limewire gives you viruses" false, so long as you're a tad computer savvy and know how to use it.

I agree with this, I still wouldn't recommend it though. Limewire does install add-ware that will give you an occasional pop-up. This is from personal experience. I would suggest buying an old pc, installing limewire on it, and forcing the files to be downloaded to a networked drive so you can access them from any computer in the house. Use remote desktop to connect to the LimeShare computer and start downloads, and share the downloaded files with everyone on your network.

That's the best way. ;]
