Okay, I seriously don't know where this topic belongs in.
Feel free to move it!

ANYWAYS..

I have a friend who always weighs herself before a meal. If she weighs over 102 pounds at that time, she refuses to eat. She just tells her mom, "MOM I'M FULL SO I WON'T EAT DINNER!" and her mom just agrees. She doesn't starve herself; she does eat. So does this mean that she's anorexic or not?

I think she is on the path of being anorexic. Soon or later she'll want to be under 100 pounds before meals. And the cycle will just become worse. How tall is she?

Geeze... one of my friends has this "anorexic" test. If you can fit through a tennis racket that doesn't have the strings, you're anorexic. I got through it up untill it hit my bips... tongue.gif

Anorexic is when you have a disorder where you refuse to eat because of your (disillusioned) thoughts on your body image...

She is refusing to eat = Anorexia

Be a good friend and give her a cookie biggrin.gif

I think its a matter of opinion and how someone takes it.

I think she kind of is, but not fully. Its something to be semi worried about so keep a eye on here. Go smash her scale xD

But honestly, if your really worried talk to her about and express how you feel and what something like a eating disorder can do to people. If she refuses to change and starts to get worse talk to her mom about it or a guardian that cares about her a lot and she gets along with well, since a lot of times now a days kids and their parents don't have the best relationships.

Time will only tell, and everything is going to be okay _smile.gif

How tall is she? If she is around 5 foot, then 102 is an average weight. However, if she's taller it might be getting borderline. Look for an online BMI test and plug in her hieght and weight and see if her bmi is healthy. Anything under 18% i believe is unhealthy. However, those online bmi testers aren't always very accurate, but they give you a good sense of what it might be.

My best friend went anorexic last year and is thankfully healthy again now, however, she used to tell her mom that she was always full too. She would eat really small portions if she would eat at all.

Some things to look out for if she turns up being anorexic:
-Watching a lot of cooking shows
-Cooking for other people, and not eating any of it
-Exercising a lot on a daily basis
-Running everyday
-Reading nutrition labels constantly
-Sudden interest in all healthy foods
-Always cold
-Irregular periods
-etc.

Obviously some of those apply to people even if they aren't anorexic, but those were some of the things we noticed with my best friend that I've also noticed with a girl in my school who just discovered she has anorexia.

BMI aren't exactly the best thing in the world. Easpecially when it comes to telling you if your over weight or not. I think people let it go to their head. Because people like Tom Cruise are over weight with their BMI. And my BMI is around 19 and I am no where near underweight or close to it.

why doesn't she just go for a run every other day instead of starving herself of glorious food. and for all of you anorexic people out there if you are too lazy to run and want to lose weight by not eating, you won't get the same results. a well toned body is attractive, even with some fat, not a sack of skin and bones.

anorexia is a psychological disorder.

the notion that skipping a meal because she
weighs 102 pounds is going to keep her at that
weight is untrue.

the idea of starving yourself, period, is tragic.

lying to your mother, saying you're full
when you're Starving!! is terrible.

Anorexic she IS.
She may not physically show it yet,
but she is already
showing signs of the psychological disorder
that being thin is worth starving and
sending your body into survival mode.
(which by the way, you're infact pushing
yourself past that. let the statistics
for the death rate of anorexics speak.)

I think with her behavior she's heading towards it at a decent speed.

I agree with you on the fact that the girl IS anorexia - Its a pschological disorder.

She has to seek help quickly - Shes suffering from anorexia and its not nice.

pretty soon she'll start missing out on PMSING and that's not fun..PMS IS KEY TO FEMALE BONDING.

that said, this girl needs to start eating REGARDLESS of how much she weighs.

Exactly. You can be at Ideal weight yet still be anorexic. Its mainly a psychological problem.

I don't think anyone on this forum, unless they are a doctor and are experienced with eating disorders or they actually had an eating disorder before, has any know how or right to really diagnose your friend. Anorexia is really tricky to diagnose with all the diets and weight loss stuff going around.

Her behavior is worrisome but if you prematurely make a diagnose, you'll probably end up offending her if she doesn't have it or make her refuse help if she does.

Best thing you should do is keep an eye on her and try to instill some healthy eating habits into her without being too obvious. If her behavior gets too worrisome, you should have a talk with her. If she is very confrontational, you should have a talk with her parents or siblings. I don't know if this approach will work but the main thing is you should be there for her.

My friend did the same thing. She would skip dinner and if she ate, she would do a lot of exercises. However, she actually conceded there was a problem so I could straightforwardly help her with it.

You're a bit thick you know that?

Anyways, that kind of sounds like me and I'm no where near anorexic. Sometimes I'm just not hungry. Does she eat regularly? Have her eating habits changed recently? It's kind of hard to determine what's going on here as we don't actually know her and you still haven't answered the question on how tall she is either. Anorexia tends to target girls who are kind of perfectionists and already on the skinny side, if that's any help.

Theres a difference in not eating when you arent hungry, and not eating because your are over 102 pounds.

^Whoopsie. Thanks, I misread.
Well then I'd say she does sound like she has some sort of problem, but I don't believe she's Anorexic yet.
