I prefer to use the term "What's gravy?". Especially around adults.

Rico, that's a mighty odd greeting.

I say hey, herro, or hi.

I say Hello or Hi to adults and sometimes friends. Most of the time when I talk to friends, I would say "hey" or "what's goin on".

I greet people in a loud obnoxious manner.
Hello is far too mundane.

Why'd you spell Whats like 'wuts' for some of them?

Anyway, I said "hey" or "hi" most of the time.
Sometimes "hey, whats up?" esp on the phone.

Usually "hello" to adults I'm meeting for the first time and "hey" or "hi" to everyone else.

I'll usually add a "how you doin'?" or "what's up?" after it too.

i say hi to everyone. hello seems too formal to parents or adults; i'd rather use hi to sound outgoing and friendly

i don't bother with the good ole' fashioned hello's anymore..i like to make impressions. in doing so, a good joke, old english vocabulary, spanish accent, english accent, and or australian accent is put to good use.
but sometimes...sometimes i am feeling dangerous and decide to go with the 'shock and confuse' method, greeting in another language, acting totally oblivious to the english language as if it were foreign to my ears..that's fun most of the time. it's the expressions you get that make it worth while.
