It's getting close to September, which means we have to start getting out our fall/winter clothing. So what's in for you this fall/winter? With the A/W 2007 season over by...May? These are the styles that are going to be in.

1) Cocooning, or Cocoon-shaped Fashion

so the loose shapes and tunics are still in! :D

2) Lingerie, or the Exposed Bra

bring out your bustiers and corsets!

3) The Bold Shoulder

please no shoulder pads!

4) Diamonds!, actually, Quilting

kinda old lady? i'm not too sure.

5) Ombré, the shading

some of it's quite nice, but it reminds me of tiedye.

6) Plaid

loves it! except for the chanel boots.

7) Moiré, the pattern

8) Fur

but of course, what kind of collection is an A/W collection if it doesn't have fur??

so what do you all think about the what's in on runway compared to what's in your A/W wardrobe?

:x
haute couture is sometimes really, really ... bad. i suppose the point is to stand out and then have their influences trickle down to more basic, cheaper stuff for everyday people but http://www.style.com/slideshows/standalone...207HUNT/08m.jpg really? she looks like a football player.

i gotta love the plaid, though.

See-through pants?
most of the items are not flattering at all.

but i could see plaid, and the shoulder pads coming back.

the ombre is quite nice...i like the dress...but i'm not too fond of the other pieces, especially this one:

but the runway isn't supposed to reflect everyday wear at all

these are mainly different types of styles. not necessarily the actual pieces that people will be wearing. i.e., the see-through pants? i was talking about the bra.

wait. is this supposed to be for everyday wear in the autumn and winter?

i just associated funky, unique styles with haute couture. excuse the ignorance, but if it isn't hc, then is it everyday wear or some sort of happy medium?

edit: http://www.style.com/slideshows/standalone...507HUNT/03m.jpg hahaha omgsh she is carrying a brain. that's awesome.

I am just a little obsessed with ombre right now. Prada's come out with a bunch of ombre'd bags and shoes (which you either love or hate), and for the most part I love it. The dress Snejana that is wearing is gorgeous!

I think people get way too caught up in the 'ugly' stuff, stuff that isn't wearable, when we have to remember that runway fashion sometimes isn't wearable at all. Fashion is art. Art is sometimes abstract...you have to take that abstract idea and translate it into something that you can understand, or in this case, something that you can wear. I like to think of runway fashion as a caricature; the most prominent and important details are exaggerated. Like:
http://www.style.com/slideshows/standalone...607HUNT/08m.jpg
I would never wear that exact coat. But I love the idea of an oversized, baggy coat with a wide, oversized lapel. And in real life, you could definitely pull it off. On the runway, everything is exaggerated to make a point, to create art. Haute couture might seem far-fetched and hard to pull off, but it's most certainly relevant to everyday fashion.

Perfect time to watch this video of Meryl Streep's monologue from The Devil Wears Prada:

I love quilting.

Would be nice to see some designers pull it off on their clothing rather than bags.

That is an awesome, awesome bag.

I LOVE the plaid though, and ombre and the bold shoulder isn't bad if they are done right.

oh, so the pieces just represent ideas for the everyday person...i think i get it.

only celebs and rich people actually buy stuff off the rack any way.

I'm liking the plaid, quilting, ombre and cocooning. I will not expose my underdoos under any circumstances though...I don't think the dean at my school would like that too much. _unsure.gif
I think a lot of people here are missing the point...

Is it just me, or does that Jean Paul Gaultier look the same as before...? Do they use the same fabric everytime?

Anyways, I usually look at it more as certain pieces that I want, not really details like fur or quilting. The strong shoulder puts me off a bit, but as long as it's not 80's power suit like or anything, I think it could be acceptable.

I really need a trench, and a prepschool blazer (like the $20,000 Balenciaga ones sad.gif)

I'm looking for more dresses that are casual but can be dressed up and layered with tights. This is from 3.1 Phillip Lim:

(Marc Jacobs)
It's so impossible to find heeled oxford booties here.

Overall, I love the whole "popsicle" look, as Vogue described it- baggy, volumous top with skinny legs, like at Stella McCartney.

----

What were some of your favorite collections this season? Mine were definitely Balenciaga, Nina Ricci, and Stella McCartney.
The ones that disappointed me were Zac Posen, Burberry Prorsum, and Alexander McQueen (just scary).

Well not EVERY fashion show is Haute Couture!!! Yes designers have their ready-to-wear shows (pret-a-porter) and some select few have a Haute Couture show (also most designers are incorporating a seperate resort show). Only the fashion elite can call themselves Haute Couture. Why? Well because there are REQUIREMENTS to show a Haute collection! Be warned...it's a long ass list:

1. A business must belong to the Syndical Chamber for Haute Couture in Paris, which is regulated by the French Department of Industry members.
2. The employment of at least 20 production people in the House workshop.
3. Presenting a collection of at least 50 new passages (a number of dresses designed around a single theme and shown at the same time) at a show for the press in Paris at least twice a year.
4. It is also required to show the two collections to clients in a specially arranged salon in the Couture House.
5. If there are new fashion houses, the criteria are to be met during the two-year transition period by employing at least 10 production people in the house workshop and presenting a collection of 25 passages to the press. However, for existing Houses who want to establish an Haute Couture presence, the criteria are to employ a minimum of 15 production people in the House workshop and then present to the press a collection of at least 35 passages.

Whew! Thats a ton of stuff! See, not all designers are Haute designers. The only Houses that currently are official members are: Chanel, Christian Dior, Nina Ricci, Versace, Armani and Gucci. A bunch of others are new members and are currently trying to become official.
Get to know your fashion before you post people!!!

oh i was referring to the overall 'high fashion' industry (just translated it into english and ie, expensive stuff most people can't afford), as opposed to the elite top.

so this is the funky ideas and styles that are to be trickled/mellowed into our usual everyday wear? i can see that working with the plaid and the subtle bold shoulders but as previously said, not the lingerie. and i don't like the cocooning, no matter how subtle it is.

now excuse me while i learn about fashion people!!!!!!!!!!

You never know! Fashion is what the designer makes of it...and eventually, the wearer. Just because a designer showcases a sheer top with an exposed bra doesn't mean that's how the look is supposed to go. Purchase that sheer top, but pair it with a simple white or bone cami instead of the bra. Et voila! The looks the designers come up with are just for inspiration, it's not a binding contract that one thing must be paired with the other.
Eventually this stuff will be trickled into the mainstream, but not right now. Take skull scarves for a look. I remember like 2 or 3 years ago when Alexander McQueen showcased his fabulous skull scarves and everyone from Kate Moss to Nicole Riche were seen wearing them. Then I walk into a Wet Seal last year and see...yup...a skull scarf. Face it. What you buy at the department stores and other stores, regardless of how expensive, garments in that store have some how been influenced by fashion designers.
True, you probably won't see some of the avant garde pieces that some designers create. Even though you may not see a full cut cocoon jacket, the shape and fullness of it may be influenced. :)

Now, back to fashion!!!
I was totally surprised by Chanel this season. TONS of color! So different than their S/S show which was black and white (very classic Chanel). The collection seemed softer and wear-er friendly. Lots of big shapes and room to move.
Definitely loved Chanel, Gucci, BCBG, Marc Jacobs, Versace, Lanvin, Dolce & Gabbana, and I actually loved Burberry's collection! Lots of coats and I LOVED the use of leather gloves!! Zac Posen's collection was soo luxe and lush!!! Like a velvet coat! Yum!
Definitely disappointed with Chloe, Dior, Galliano was just...weird...But overall more collections I liked than disliked.

I can't wait to buy grey tights and ankle boots! Pair the tights with a dress or even shots, with the ankle boots and a day into night jacket (like a blazer) and oh man soo good!

i think plaid is very AW06, a la mcqueen. I'm pretty much over it.

PVC and kinky S&M influences are in this fall, as well as chunky knits. Grey black + neutral colors plus random flashes of color (red, electric blue, etc)
