I know there's already a breakdancer thread, but it didn't quite fit under what I was looking for o.O...

I started out breakdancing, (still am practicing), but after a while I also sorta got into all sorts of pop-dancing, and even swing dancing. Swing dancing is REALLY FUN for those of you who've never tried it. Anyways, any like *dancers* out there? Care to impart upon me your wisdom and experience? I haven't been dancing for long, so I'm not too good.

Ballroom dancing even, any form of dance. I love dancing = D. Btw, for those of you who don't know, ALL forms of dance are much harder than they look! I know from experience of trying something that looked easy and ending up hurting myself = (.

Well, yeah I dance, but I have more of a background in popping than I do in breaking. I do some locking, and maybe a little bit of electric boogaloo, but I personally have never tried ballroom dancing and I would like to, but I'm probably never going to get the chance to. How long have you been dancing for?

Yep. I've been dancing since I was 3, so for 15 years. I've switched around styles a lot though. I've done ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical/contemporary, hiphop, video dance, street jazz, and polynesian. It was fun dabbling so I have a variety of experience, but I wished I'd stayed with certain things longer. But yeah, I love dance. Its a huge part of my life.

Hahaha...I took a Beginning Jazz dance class in school. It was pretty fun and I'm continuing it in Senior year. Dance = <3. Anyone can dance, all they have to do is just find the rhythm and move to the beat. x]

But as for hip hop and stuff, I tried learning it on my own, and it didn't turn out that great. I know a bunch of lil moves, but I suck. Lol. I really wanna see if I can get to a studio to learn. :) If anyone knows any good dance studios around the San Gabriel Valley area, do tell please & thank you :)

Step Up wasn't a good representation of either dance forms.

I've been dancing since the age of 3 (I'm now 17). Break dancing is amazing. Especially when it's combined with more technical dancing. This girl at nationals did breakdancing on pointe and it was the sickest thing I've ever seen.

Yeah it was. They beat us for first at USTD nationals, but they were amazing. I'll send you the video as soon as it's released.

It is usually better to start as young as you can if you want to go pro, but it doesn't mean you cant do it for fun when you're older. Talk to local schools and see if there are any scholarship programs or something of the sort. Many have them.

I've always wanted to take dance. My parents think it's a waste of money though...so if I really wanted to take dance, I'd have to save up money for it [which I'm sort of doing right now. I can't get a proper job until I'm 16 though..at least that's how it is over here).

I don't know where you are but here in Britain there are lots of teachers who will let you dance for free if you're really passionate and your parents won't pay. I think these people do scholarships too:
http://www.myspace.com/pasdedeuxlondon

Also, my sister is a dancer and a boy at her class cleans the studios to pay for his lessons, you could always volunteer to do something like that.

I danced for six years when I was younger. Ballet and tap. I'll say that ballet was more my style, especially while I was with Angel Feet. Worship unto God through a spiritual interpretational ballet dance.
It was an experience I'll never forget.

Modern dance is pretty fun if you mix it with a little hiphop. Pure modern can be kind of boring, imo.

Mhmm. Dancing, aside from school, is pretty much my life.

I'm classically trained in ballet. My mom started me at...4 years old with San Diego Civic Youth Ballet, I'm 16 now. The dance studio is my second home.

Aside from ballet, I do hip-hop with the dance troup Future Shock LA & when I get to college hope to move on to Culture Shock LA.

I've also done polynesian dance on and off for about 8 years. I also like to do jazz/lyrical since it is more free than the way I've been trained to do ballet, more flowing in a way.

Not sure if I'll continue with dance after I graduate, but who knows?
