School is putting on Beauty and the Beast, which seems like awesome to me and I would love to be a part of it.
Problem is, I dont really know how to dance.. I think I can if I learn but anways, and I've never had any acting experiance. But I can sing, granted I dont freeze up (idk why its different from singing in front of your friends and from singing in front of teachers and ppl..) I think the only way I would ever even get a part in it is if I can manage to sing well and not freeze up..and practise hard so I can make it through the acting audition. But anyways, any tips for me? |

Sing infront of a small group of friends and then work your way up. So when it's time to audition you won't freeze up.

Takes some dancing classes or get one of the students in dance class to show you some moves.

You'll have to perform several times beforehand to get comfortable. Dancing classes may take too long. Is there a dance coach at your school? If not, try finding someone who knows how to dance. |

I completely agree. Its just the first bit of the audition thats freaky usually...for me anyways. Once you start, you should be fine. Just practice lots in front of the mirror and some close friends to get you more comfortable. |

If you are going to go on stage and dance, you should always smile. At the back, they might not see a smile, but if you dont smile, you just look like a dead figure moving around.

whenever you sing or dance, don't look at the judges/teachers/audience. look right above their heads so that way, it appears that you're looking out at them but you're really just looking outtt.

Excellent advice. Also, since the more you audition, the more you will be comfortable auditioning is there any other auditions being held for any other type of performance? You could practice auditioning for things you don't necessarily care much for. (Pain in the butt, but it might help you prepare for the "real thing.") Oh, and pick a song that is in your range. |

What I always do is look at the exit sign beyond everyone else's heads. When you're on stage, its hard to see the people anyway. I think it would make you more confident if you were more confident with your character. For example, if you're singing. Try recording yourself and then listening to what you sang. Make sure to make all the rehearsals. Eventually the stage fright will cease if you really love doing it.
