employer google you before they give you an interview. They saw your drunken picture on facebook and your faul language on myspace or your arguement on the forum over little stuff or saw your sn on a porn site etc. After seeing all your info online they decided no to call you up for an interview? They can personally google it themself or they can ask a professional searcher to do it for them. What do you think about this issue? do you think this is what happening when you apply and no one respond?

-i saw this on Austin show mike and juliet. I should becareful. Because i heard a story that a student didn't get accepted to graduate school because he said bad thing about the professor on facebook.

I wasn't aware that people actually did that nowadays. But now that I think about it, I've heard of that story as well. That kinda makes me scared that they can just google our past and present online life and *poof* every single detail about our history. sad.gif I don't like that idea very much, but I guess it can give the person a general overview of the person they're about to hire.

two of the guys that interviewed me (one of the developers and the project manager) looked up my myspace.

first they were impressed by the layout and asked me how i pulled it off during the interview, and then (now they say) they hired me because i said my favorite past times are spooning and hugging. they're joking of course..

well if you think you don`t have anything to be ashamed of that would hurt your reputation, then whatever. check away. sometimes, it can even be an advantage.

i don't mind it really, if u choose to make ur profiles public then that's something u have to accept. if u don't want someone judging u by a myspace or facebook page, make it private.

It may seem too much of an invasion but honestly i think it really is for the better. Most of the time the internet really reveals your personality around people, especially friends and others that you know. Interviews could be sugarcoated, you never know.. Besides if you have nothing bad about yourself, what's wrong with letting them check out your Myspace?

I wouldn't care if they googled me, If they find my myspace ok its private but I barely even use it. I don't have anything to hide so I really wouldn't mind.

That kid didn't graduate for something he said online? Thats stupid because its reality. People say crap about their teachers all day everyday 24/7 when its school season. So thats crap.

I've heard about colleges doing that. I really don't have much to hide so they can click away...the worst they could find is a book review I gave on barnes and noble that said I used to be a fan of The Clique novels.. zipped.gif

I don't like the idea of colleges doing it so much, if they're going to deny you for cussing or something. I can understand rejection if people are stupid enough to put up pictures of themselves high, drunk, talk about being drunk etc.

I think it's smart for employers to do that. I recently did it for my boss, about a week ago, before interviewing a bunch of possible employees.

Myspace eliminated about half the choices. The ones who were smart enough to keep their profiles private and keep their personal life, well, personal, still got the interviews.

Now that you mention that, I never knew that people were doing that now-a-days. But how could they find you? I mean, I hardly ever have my full name on the internet except for facebook. When I have to sign up for something online, I usually just don't fill it in or only put part of my name in.

I guess it's kind of a good idea, because you want to be able to see what kind of person you are employing, but then again, it'd suck if you didn't get employed because of your actions OUTSIDE of work.
