Which would you prefer?
My friend is going through this thing where she's liking a guy whom I think is a bit out of her league. I don't actually tell her that, but I tell her the truth.

I told her that as her friend, I will not sugarcoat things for her. I said that because I think that she is old enough to handle the harsh truth and that she'd know how to recover from it.

She told me that sometimes people just prefer the sugarcoat because the truth may be too hard to handle.

I personally am the type of person who would rather take the harsh truth than have people make it all unicorns and rainbows for me. I've had terrible truths being told about me, but I appreciate the people for telling me even though they hurt.

Opinions?

if the truth is too hard for someone to handle, then they shouldn't even ask. also, a TRUE friend would only tell you the truth; why? because they actually care about you and would rather hurt your feelings than see you have your heart broken.

PSHA, sugarcoating is for sissies >_>

I never sugarcoat anything when it comes to my friends...and most usually say they like that from me...

Truth. But there's a way of telling the truth in at least a tactful way.

You could have just, you know, shut your face.

I try not to lie, so I just don't say anything if it's too mean.

It depends on the person and what the truth is.

If someone isnt good looking or something, Im not going to flat out say that they are ugly..

Some of my friends would rather be lied to, than know the truth.

Whenever my friends ask me for advice, I always ask them if they want the best friend advice or the truth. I usually just end up telling them the truth. Which they're not too happy of. whistling.gif

Maybe it depends on how you say it. Some people are very blunt and others say the truth in a way that it won't hurt as much. It that considered sugar coating?

I am usually pretty blunt, which is why a lot of people dislike me >_> but the truth is much better than sugar-coating, b/c sugar-coating will hit you back in the end. x_x
