I want to go see it this week. Although, the idea of a real person named Link throws me off. I blame the adventures of Zelda pinch.gif

Saw it yesterday.
The John Water's 1988 original is far superior.
However, the musical adaptation wasn't awful (though parts of it certainly were.)
As a whole, I enjoyed it, but the more I think about it, the less and less.
It's just no comparison to the original.

The person 2 posts above me said it best...I was contemplating leaving early because it was so disappointing...anyone who says this movie is good probably hasnt seen the real original version...this is the 2nd or 3rd remake....and there is just something unsettling about Travolta in that fat suit and wig...

I still like this movie. The original is classic but this one was still fun. So entertaining and a lot of actors/actresses I really like in it so I thought it was still a great movie.

"Great" I think is a bit much. For one, the musical production was really hit and miss. Some of the songs were relevant, appropriate, upbeat, and funny. However, a few others were heavy handed, poorly appropriated, and just lame. The sub-plots were developed almost more than the main plot which saw too much resolution and not nearly as much development. The humor wasn't as smart and biting as it could have been. And, worse of all, modern cinema has no idea how to handle race relations: That marching protest (accompanied by cheesy, yet embarrassingly serious tears from the Queen) was quite possibly the lamest, most ridiculous, and "progressive" bullshit I've ever seen. Hollywood is so determined to prove it isn't racist, it's really quite sad. Waters did a much more effective and enlightening job in caring to address the race issues within. Where Waters was patient, this musical adaptation was spastic and bored.

Don't get me wrong, I thought it was alright, but saying it was "great" is going a bit far I think.

My gosh, I loved Hairspray!

I think they added some extra stuff in the movie, but I loved it all the same. I saw this movie last Saturday and I can't stop singing the songs, especially "Without Love". Hairspray songs have been stuck in my head ever since I saw the movie tongue.gif All throughout the movie I had a smile on my face. I swear by the end my cheeks were aching biggrin.gif

Never knew Zac Efron could be such a cutie, haha. This movie gave me a whole new point of view about how I felt about his performance. At first when I saw High School Musical I thought he was just okay, but he really shone in Hairspray and I think he's going to continue to be very successful and grow a lot in the film/music industry.

Nikki Blonsky did such an excellent job! Wow, and considering that this was her first time! Simply amazing. And I really love her attitude about her figure. I think more people in Hollywood should have her point of view. Here is an interview question I read about online:
"Q: What's it like to see herself on a giant screen?
There is a close-up shot of just my butt. And I said, 'Well, I'm not going to hate it, because it is my butt and I embrace myself.' It's fine. But how many other people can say their butt filled up a 70-foot screen?"

[= I just love her. So does my mom, haha. My mom LOVED the movie so much! She was crying her eyes out during the protest scene and John Travolta really gave us laughs. He's such a great actor, and he never lost his Grease moves. I admire him for playing this role in Hairspray [= Very bold of him.

Basically everyone was amazing in this movie. Best movie I've seen this year. <3

Saw it today... I thought it was fun, but admittedly I haven't seen the original.

I didn't 'get' the John Travolta thing. I just found it really unpleasant and cringingly embarrasing. I do like Amanda Bynes, though.

it's because in the original movie (and broadway production, i think)....Travolta's role is always played by a man in drag. aniwink.gif

Damn. Damn. Damn.

Movies like this make me very disappointed that every time I turn around, not everyone is singing the same song in key and dancing the same movies in exact sync.

Damn. sad.gif

Anyway - loved it. Like, squirming in my seat because I just love the utter cheesiness of the whole thing. Srsly. Oh, John Travolta. Hilarious and scary at the very same time! Ohhh boy was Seaweed cute. <777

I AM HOPPING ON THE I throb.gif ZAC EFRON TRAIN.

The boy's muy sexay.

The movie was pretty good. I didn't like Zac Efron for his part though...John Travolta was awesome XD
They didn't include the whole jail thing like in the musical. Love the music. The girl who played Tracy was really good.

It's not like this is the first time it's coming out. The original came out in 1988. I doubt their intention was to "knockoff" Grease.

And really, they have very little in common. Unless the fact that they both are musicals and feature John Travolta constitutes it as a replica?

...They were playing the original on ABC family a few days ago I believe it was..

My dads girlfriends kids went to theaters to go see the new version and then watched the original..
I didn't bother to watch it, it really didn't seem to catch my attention through the commercials..

Yeah I saw the original too but I saw it the day before I saw the new version. Even though there are many easy to find differences I still love them both equally because they each had different parts that made them spacial in there own way I know that sound corny but that is how I truly feel.

I've seen the trailer a few times
And it looks really impressive.

It may be "the next Grease" but IMO nothing can top a classic like that _smile.gif
