I'm currently working PT at DELL in the assembly line to help my parent pay off their debt. I then realize how important it is to get a good education. You have to be at the top at the game or else you will be commanded like a dog. Most of the people who use this forum are teen. You should think about your future/education before it too late. I was surrounded with people that only have a high school diploma and their job can be replace at anytime. My parent work in those range. I now feel appreciate for all that they suffer and sacrifice for me.
Most teen in US don't live with their parent after they past 18. They spread their wing and start their own journey. I don't because I don't want to start a journey that will end in misery. I want to stock up a lot of money awhile living with my parent. I probably get marry around 30. (i'm 20 now). If i don't make the salary i desire then i will be single. I don't want to have kid and make them suffer because i wasn't prepare to give them what they need. DO anyone think about this stuff before getting marry or do you think Love is not enough.? Get marry at young age = debt! |

I basically grew up in the projects. There were days where I was hungryyyy but I knew I couldn't eat. im with you on that one. i know what thats like. i work an 8-5 5 days a week and im making a pretty good living enough to pay rent and bills and stil have enough to save and spend. (college is extremely expensive, so i HAVE to get financial aid) i like you am gratefull for everything that was given to me and even more gratefull for everything that wasnt. im glad i wasnt showerd with gifts from a young age im glad i was hungry sometimes because that showed me a true sense of security when i did finally work hard for what i wanted. everyday i thank my parents for my up-bringing and in no way am i ashamed of what they did to make me who i am today. ![]() |

No. Both of my parents are really responsible financially. They only spend the money that they have, and my dad refuses to take out any kind of loan.
Because of them, I am now also against loans, although I suppose they are a necessity for some people. |

No but they had some hefty college loans to pay off. We grew up in a not-so-nice part of town, but about 5 years ago we moved into a pretty nice area.

oh. i guess i'm spoiled.
i'm in college, which my parents pay for. during breaks (winter/summer), i still go home and live with them. they pay for most of my food, my car, my gas, some of my clothes. i work a 9-5 during the 3 months of summer (obviously i'm being super productive right now haha) but that's about it...i use that money to pay for any misc expenses like textbooks (they are so freaking expensive...$100+ for one book? hell noooo) and clothes, food, etc. my parents claim that they're going to completely cut me off when i go to grad school. i only half believe that. |

uhm yeah i grew up in a drug house due to the fact that my mom was a dope dealer...but surprisingly, we didn't have ANY debt back then. Like, my mom didn't have any credit cards or checks. She always cashed her chekcs from work and she alwyas got cash directly from her customers. I mean, considering the circumstances...i was living fine.
but then when she got busted (THANK GOD), my sister & i moved in with my aunt & uncles house...but then they suddenly had kid and they went from zero to three kids in 2.5 seconds. ![]() we were seriously in debt up to our eyeballs. My Aunt and Uncle had to file for bankrupcy twice in about a 4 year span...and 9-11 didn't help. My uncle took almost a 20% pay cut. ![]() but it was like a miracle...my uncle got a slight raise which made loads of a difference and my aunt has gotten a promotion about 4 years ago which easily tripled her pay!! uh..sorry that this turned into a autobiography... my point is that my family had terrible debt, but now we're doing more than fine. ![]() |

No. My dad is a rich bastard. While being poor is a terrible thing Suzzette, at least you had eachother even though your family later split up. I grew up in animosity, hatred, bickering and we were OK financially. My parents' divorce will be finalized at the end of the month.
Money isn't everything. |

Yeah, I'm not exactly rich, but we're not poor or in debt or anything, at least not while they've been married. Before then, yeah by themselves, but together and whatnot things have been fine.

Just remember.
Financial problem is equivalent to poor relationship which can lead to divorce. Money is almost everything. You need the money to support your wife too. Money is stability of your future. When i'm responsible, i'm going to business multitask in online and career. |

^ I disagree. Maybe you have to lead my life in order to understand. Being well - off and still having a very rocky relationship is worse that being poor and being happy.
Sure, money buys you a lot but not almost everything. I envy a friend of mine who is still ... under average. Although her parents have financial disputes from time to time but the whole situation brings them closer. They work together to make their children happy. My dad, the rich bastard, well, he does nothing. |

Student loans, car payments, credit cards. I'd say I'm in debt.
I've lived in "poverty" before, some people would say I'm still below poverty line, but what's important is that I don't feel poor. As far as being happy goes, I'm doing just fine, so I have no reason to complain. And my parents had a LOT more wrong with their relationship than just financial problems, so. |

About the money, my parents are always fighting about money, my teacher divorce her disable husband for money problem and a lot of people I know give up each other for a better financial stability. When you're married, your financial ownership/responsibility is fuse with your partner. This problem applies to strong urbanized people, I believe. Money just bring stress to relationship. it's never easy to have a great relationship when the money is bothering you. |

My parents are not in debt.
And I do not think getting married at a young age = debt. It all depends on how well you manage your own money (and your spouse). You don't just waste and let yourself fall into debt. Never make late payments, etc. and take good care of your money. |

My grandma told me that people can't just marry out of love or get a job because they enjoy doing that anymore.

No, my family is not in debt. We have never been in debt. My family is very responsable when it comes to money. They dont take out loans, they use a bank account and hardly ever use their credit cards.
