I find this interesting because sometimes you thought you had mates, you obviously don't, I added someone the other day and we were both online and it's like he never started a convo and when I did I could tell he had no interest whatsoever really. Do people find this over MSN, what is it all about, and when they don't reply or just sign out like that.

And is it rude not to talk to someone if you know them and you never chat to them when online? What are your thoughts?

Well, I think this happens with any online chat, not just MSN.

And unfortunately, people are just like that. It's part of the reason why talking online can be so problematic, you can be incredibly passive and not ever face someone.

I would try to find some other online friends if you can. Join a group (a yahoo group for example) that is something you're interested in.

A long time ago I joined a Buffy yahoo group and I still chat to a few of them quite often online.

I dont think its rude unless you actually know the person in real life. I have the same problem I had a girl named brittany on my friends list on msn and I dont even know how she got on there @_@ I never talk to her if she comes on. Although I have another friend named CC who I met on online game (toontown lame I know) and we have been talking for about three-four years because I added her as a friend on msn plus all the time I use to go on toontown, and its like shes my sister because she knows so much about me.

ehhh, there's rude ppl out there. and obviously there's some online.
yeah, i get that a lot. i guess now a days, ppl dont feel the need to say good bye when
they wanna leave a convo. the least ppl can do is tell you they don't feel like
chatting at the moment. but logging off, or straight ignoring tikcz me off. >.<

You can't really expect someone to start a conversation with you just because you added them...but it is rather rude if he doesn't show any interest when you initiate a conversation. Some people are just not sociable online, but that's just their personal taste, and usually nothing more. Sometimes I'm like that too...I'm the type of person that absolutely HATES awkward lulls in conversations so I usually just stay away from chatting with people I hardly know. It's not because I don't like them, I'm just too lazy, tired and scared of carrying on a long conversation.

I still don't think it's rude if you don't start conversation, though. MSN is meant for chatting, yes, but they could be busy or just not want to talk? It's hard to expect people to talk all the time.

When someone signs out abruptly, it could be something wrong with their internet or their MSN. Lately MSN has been logging me out once every few hours, so that gets a bit irritating. Or they're just extremely rude.

I don't exactly talk to everyone on my buddy list, because I know a lot of them can't exactly kick up a good conversation. But they definitely don't have to be rude if you try to talk to them.
