Myspace Dreamweaver Extension Project, Download, and Updates (Jun 02: DIV OVERLAY, HIDE PROFILE TOOLS)

This topic will be for discussion and announcements regarding my Myspace Dreamweaver Extension Project.

So far, this extension includes:
  1. Hide Profile Tool
  2. DIV Overlay Generator
  3. At a Glance Table Generator
  4. Custom Comment Box Generator
  5. Quick Layout Generator
This list will be updated as I go along.

This is going to be a slow project but hopefully it'll be that much better because i've taken my time on it.

If you have any suggestions, please let me know. I will update the Topic Description with the current date when I make updates to the extension so that you can redownload it with its new features.

This extension is mostly only useful for people using DIV OVERLAY layouts because it is easier to preview in dreamweaver and you dont need myspace's code.

I MAY figure out some way to tweak this for standard layout use.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE EXTENSION

You need Macromedia/Adobe Dreamweaver and Macromedia/Adobe Extension Manager to use this extension.

Wait..Did Adobe take over Macromedia, because I see it says Adobe Dreamweaver instead of Macromedia Dreamweaver.

Edit:

Dumb Question. I don't know what I was thinking.

Please do not ask me how to create dreamweaver extensions. This information is included in your Dreamweaver help menu. It's not something I can explain to you so that you'll actually understand. I've been receiving WAY too many PMs about this.

QUOTE(ThomasC @ Jun 3 2007, 02:44 PM) *
Sometimes when I use the generator it doesn't code.

The hide profile code works great. I know it's not a generator but if you use dreamweaver to code your myspace, all it takes is a click.

the at a glance generator would be more efficient if there was a choice to pick the text color if you don't want the default to be black.. >.< and if the left side of the form stayed when you posted the code on your profile

The div overlay generator i tried but really couldn't find any way that I would use it, its a great start for that extension though.

the commment box generator works very well. it would be nice if there was an option to choose pictures for the buttons though.

all the extensions work properly from what I can tell. and they are a great start to your project

the div overlay generator just generates a top div and bottom div that covers the entire myspace. then you put your layout into the bottom div, coding it like you would any website, and then it should look fine if you paste it into your myspace. then you use the at a glance and comment box generators where ever you want them to be iny our layout.

the at a glance text takes the css from your mypsace, if you look at the code. whatever you choose that class to be, the text will be.

it doesnt matter how wide it is. disable horizontal scroll. this just makes sure it stretches for widescreen resolutions.

Hi, I've tried saving the file to open in the Extension Manager, but I'm getting an invalid file message. When I click on the link to download, a new Safari window with text opens up. *confused face*

One thing I noticed after using this, was that there was no "accept changes" button on myspace, after you drop in the code. ?

if you're using a div overlay layout, that can happen sometimes, I believe because you're overlaying the accept changes button. actually, i thought myspace had fixed that recently...

there's a tutorial somewhere about how to submit the changes if you cant see the button.

News on the Quick Layout Generator:

It's still in development. Basically the extension will come with some premade commonly used layouts. They're just "skeletons" though. like: "1 Column: Banner, Nav, Content" and "2 Column" Layouts, etc.

As for the extension not always making any changes to your dreamweaver code after you're finished filling in the info.. sometimes you have to make sure your cursor is in the right place for the code.

Also, I havent figured out how to make it so the CSS will be added to your existing style sheet, or to just put it in the <head> tags, and dreamweaver sometimes wont display css if it isnt in between the <head> tags, so most of the time you'll have to copy/paste it up there.

I've been using this to script my profiles for a little while now, and it's great.
But recently, myspace changed some things in their allowable script thing, and even with the Div that protects the ads, the ads still disappear.

I found a fix (kind of.)

Will there be any update, and if there isn't, is their anyway I can change the script shortcut manually?

Thank you.

I don't get it.
I have made everything, or what I think everything.

I made my own background for the Div.
The first thing I do:

Click: Hide Profile.
Then I click
Div Overlay Generator.

I filled the boxes in.

After that.
Dreamweaver shows nothing in the Design view.
It's.. nothing.

Here is a print screen:

So; what exactly do I do.

spacecadet: there will be an update in a couple weeks. i've been loaded with contract work and also my fulltime job, so I have put this on hold for now. I should have more free time soon. If you wanna share your work-around, please do and I'll be sure to include it in the next build.

reverse: let me see your code.

Hi!

I'm trying to install the extension on Dreamweaver CS3 but it says that I need Dreamweaver MX or higher version and cancels the installation..

Is it incompatible with CS3 version?

EDITED: Nevermind, I just had to restart Vista. Now everything works fine! _smile.gif

It might be because I'm tired, or dumb, but how do you use the quick layout generator? >> I don't see it anywhere. shifty.gif
