I think it depends on the couple, profession, society, as to who has the harder life. There are definitely industries where men have it easier, and vice versa. Same for couples. Some societies just completely push aside women.

Everyone sucks, sure, but I've found, anecdotally, that less men suck in comparison to the female population. The ratio is extreme. I submit neuroscience, biology, developmental psychology, the media, and life as evidence: way to be vague, eh? And, as goes who has it worse in society: I vote men, definitely. There is a reason we kill ourselves so much more than women, it's cause we're treated like shit and are expected not to get soft about it - ever.
