Do you know someone that is called stuck up just because they have class? Are YOU called stuck up? I'm not quite sure what makes a person "stuck-up." I hope it's not because a person walks with their head high and has a lot of confidence (I always thought that was a good thing). I think that a lot of times people don't even think that they're all that (others do; that's why they always have something to say). Also, many don't put themselves on high pedestals above everybody else (that's just the way they are seen). We as people help create the "stuck up" image, when the person usually isn't even stuck up. They may be jus quiet, reserved, or even just having a bad day! Perhaps they just embrace the person that they are regardless of what any says or does. It's like we have made being confident and having standards seem a bad thing when it shouldn't be. I'm called stuck up because I walk with my head high and I have high standards for myself and I have a high confidence level. I don't think this is a good reason for people to be labeled this way.

I've been called stuck-up because I'm shy sad.gif

I suppose someone who's stuck-up to me would be someone who's egostatistical and conceited. I can honestly say that I am NOT stuck-up.

lol this reminds me! Someone in chat thought I was "gay" because I "act stuck-up."

Yeah. Being confident or having class can be confused with being stuck-up. It sucks, but oh well. People who like to assume that others are stuck-up are often insecure about themselves.

And sometimes, people are simply arrogant. ^_^"

I'm arrogant. Sometimes. Sometimes I'm not. Sometimes I'm things other than arrogant.

I've never heard the word 'stuck up' about myself, to my face but I see what you mean. I'm the kind of person with some greater amount of confidence who likes to speak my mind. I don't consider that stuck up, at all. To me, stuck ups are people who are just a too full of themselves.

Yeah, a lot of people thought that about me when I began high school. But I was just really shy. Of course, it only took them getting know to think otherwise.

Even still, to an extent, I'm still kinda shy, though.

well. ive been called stuck up for many reasons; not necessarily for having class, the usual response to the fact that I have class is "white girl, oreo, coconut.." etc. things of that nature, but 2 of the most pathetic reasons i have been called stuck up are as follows:

1. The simple fact that I am a black girl who goes to a private all girls boarding school > "stuck up black girl"

2. I was called stuck up on my refusal to conversate with an arrogant and ignorant person.

It seems that most of the shy people that don't talk or seem reserved are labeled as "stuck-up", which is pretty dumb because most of the people that say that have no life and don't know their head from their toes.

That's totally unfair because shy people can't really conversate with strangers and personally I'm a reserved person because I like to listen to people and learn. Not big talk, but I am real. Wow maybe I am stuck up. Who knows?

people don't just call others 'stuck-up' when they do what you say you do. Generally, people who have confidence in themselves and higher standards for themselves are looked up to. Only those that are snobbishly conceited (and let the whole world know it) are labeled as stuck up.

or that at least how i think of it.

At my school people are called stuck-up just because they're quiet and don't talk alot. I've been called that many times by numerous people at school because I don't down myself or have low self esteem or confidence. So yes people DO just call others stuck-up for that reason.

okay well i don't live where you live so of course our viewpoints are going to different...

but from what i've experienced, there are two types of 'quiet' people. They're are the quiet people that are quiet simply becaseu they feel that they are better than others. or perhaps because they don't know anyone and don't WANT to know anyone (because they think they're better than others).

then there's the others that just don't tlka to others cuz they're...just quiet people. maybe shy, maybe just intrapersonal.

idk...i'm just saying that i've never heard anyone call anyone else stuck-up unless they had actual reason. ermm.gif

To me, the term "stuck-up" defines a person who thinks that they are better than everybody else when the truth is the opposite of that. It's the person who looks down their nose on people and classify others as their "equal" or their "lower".

I believe that when you really are good at something (meaning people other than your friends and family members agree with you), then it's not conceited to say it out loud. For example : I'm a good piano player, and I know I'm not the only one who thinks that.
The main thing is confidence. Which can be and often misconstrued as being stuck up or conceited.

However, if you're like one of those bad wannabe American Idol audition contestants, then calling yourself amazing is just stupid.

Personally, I think everybody classifies others - I think we do it when we make those judgments based on first impressions. It's, for lack of better words, a part of human nature to be a little bit stuck up.

I just ranted on and on in this post. Feel free to ignore it. sad.gif

Yeah I've known some cats who are just way into themselves and think their the shit when there's no real good reason they should be acting like that. Like giving me props for checking out their shit and being nice. It's ridiculously frustrating and almost torture to hear how these people feed their own ego.

Here's a question. So what do you call a cocky person who backs up everything they say?

What do you mean?
Like they really are being honest with their claims, but then they're being overly confident?
