We're absolutely ready. I seriously didn't even think about the fact that both of the front-runners for the Democratic parties were minorities until someone mentioned it. Minorities are a regular fixture in the life of almost every American these days and I really don't think it will be a big problem. The amount of Americans who are really strongly racist or sexist is minimal.

In certain parts of the country, maybe. I don't think it's safe to say that the proportion of people who harbor racist/sexist ideals is minimal, though. Contrarily, I'd venture to say that the line is still not clearly delineated between the tolerant/intolerant populations of the USA.

I don't think someone's gender or race should implicate their ability to run for, an achieve a position in, office. I think it's been proven in our history of presidents (Nixon comes to mind) that even if you are a white male with previous background in law that it doesn't mean you'll make a good leader.

Race or gender doesn't determine if you can lead a country. And I'd hope that if we had a good leader other countries wouldn't have an issue with it. I think that they'd use it more as an excuse to have an issue.

I agree completely with this.

Whoever wins, i hope they do a good job and create positive changes for America. Honestly, I am glad that we may have a minority or woman president because this should open america's eyes and promote open-mindedness across the country and possibly across the world.

They are both Democrats so if the Republican candidate wins.. Rudy Giuliani? It's still a white male. But I agree with others. It's not race or gender that determines if you can lead a country.

I'm ready for Obama! I just hope he's not an Uncle Tom sell out piece of crap. Maybe he'll have some plans to help the lower/middle class through taxes :)

All politicians lie, so I am hoping for the best with Obama, because he is the first, and is a poster case. If he does something wrong people will blow it FAR out of proportion, he has a lot riding on him if he wins.

race/ethnicity/gender has nothing to do with anything except school yard quarrels and emotions.

Al Sharpton and the entire NAACP would disagree with you, and well add the ACLU to that list as well.

I'm sure whoever the next President is, they'll be way better than Bush. Whether it be Clinton, Obama, McCain, Giuliana, whatever.
