of course, you can still use limewire. you just need to watch what you download and whatnot. and you're putting yourself at a risk. you could get caught but millions of people use it and the chances of getting caught are very slim.

i used to use limewire on my dads computer, but now ever since i've been using my sisters computer, she uses a program called 'Ares' to download things she wants. i'm not gonna lie, it sucks, so i don't suggest anyone to use it, but hey.. it gets the job done sometimes.

I think the real question concerning limewire is, What are the chances of actually getting caught? Of course there's always going to be a person who gets caught, granted. However, if millions of people are using it, then you are only one in a million. In my opinion, your chances of getting caught using Limewire are about the same as your chances of winning the lottery.

Now, I've never gotten viruses from Limewire, but Bearshare has really messed up my computer. The program I trust the most is WinMX, but I gave up on it since it doesn't have as many results as it used to. I guess it's just not as popular anymore.

Yup. Limewire is illegal. Downloading free Mp3's, programs, etc = illegal.

I've downloaded countless programs, movies, etc. I mean, I've probably hijacked thousands of dollars worth of stuff. If I wanted to, I could download Photoshop CS3 (worth over $2000) for free. You've got to be a fool to tell me that's not illegal!

I'm quite content with using Limewire even though the theatre teacher at my school is currently battling a lawsuit for using it. Apparently she could be losing hundreds of thousands of dollars _unsure.gif

I'm actually listening to music on Limewire right now, haha. It's a miracle worker.

How did she get caught? How they know?

pandora is still free, but it's only an internet radio site... you don't download. Unfortunately the government is trying to make them pay more for their liscencing (SP?!?) and such so a lot of the internet radio sites are closing down. They are actaully having a day of silence today...

Correction, not the Government, the RIAA. The RIAA is the blood suckers in this battle.

Eeeek Limewire?!?!

I would have to recommend Soulseek for Window users and Nicotine+ for Linux users. Lime/Frostwire = virus hell. Plus the music I listen to is a bit rare... Limewire only has pop music lol.

The beta version of Limewire has a system in place that if it has a "virus" which 1 in 9000 files are, it lets the server know and puts in "warning list" that warns you before you try to download it.

Heads up to you folks, my computer kept giving me the "your disk space is low" thing for my C drive when everything I install and all my media is on my D. So i fished around and found in the limewire folder of my comp a bunch of junk that was being uploaded on to my comp. In the end there were 7,000+ files of music, pc games, random pictures and documens I was in shock when I saw all of this. I deleted it all and the next day, limewire folder full of stuff since I had left my comp on over night. Just becareful.

You haven't sited any of your claims you've made, until then... you're making false claims and I no longer believe anything you tell us, especially your ASVAB score and career in the "military" as well as your computer knowledge.

No program in the world could ever find every virus that exists in the world. It's impossible.

^ Perhaps a bad file was just downloaded, importing all that junk along with it.

Yes...still using it. Limewire isn't illegal. It's your acts of downloading that are "illegal". But if it's there, they're allowing people like you to take advantage of it. So why not?

You have to remember, LimeWire is a P2P FILE SHARING program. That means that someone else had the song first, and put it up for you. Then you take that song, listen to it, and give it to others. Eventually, the song gets spread around, and everyone has a copy of it.

That's the reason for the viruses. Someone makes the virus, hides it as an MP3 file, and uploads it to LimeWire. You download it, attempt to listen to the fake music, and you have the virus. If you don't immediately get rid of it, you'll be sending it to other people, who will send it to even more, and pretty soon everyone has the virus.

Moral of the story: Be careful what you download. shifty.gif
