A slip - It's called a slip but it looks like a dress to me. I have heard that slips are lingerie and dresses are what you wear on the street, but I'm not sure.
Can you wear that slip as street wear? and could you clarify the difference between a slip and a dress. |

Slips are usually very sheer, so wearing them on the street wouldn't be very intelligent. That particular one looks pretty thick, so I dunno.
The purpose for slips, is so your dress [or skirt] doesn't scratch you. Or, sometimes if a dress is a little see-through, a slip is used to hide your undergarments. =] They could be easily related to a Cami. |

I think a slip is more of an underdress or loungewear. shrug* I guess some people wear them in public anyways.

Slips are more traditionally worn as lingerie or sleepwear (or an underdress), but now they've made in onto the streets. So now, the term is best interpreted literally - it's a dress (usually very light and casual, with thin straps)that you can "slip" on.

you usually wear slips under sheer/translucent dresses. Or, if the slip IS opaque enough, you might be able to pull it off with leggings and a belt or something.

Agreed. I also agree with Gigi. I work at a lingerie/sleepwear store and there's stuff there that's meant to be for sleep or whatever but some of it can definitely be pulled off as normal clothing to wear out. |
