I've noticed that my mom always sounds really nice when she picks up the phone, She has amazing phone manners.
I, personally, do not. I mean, when at school I have to say "It's a great day at sherrill's, how may I help you?". But at home, I just talk normal. shrug.gif I mean... I am polite most of the time anyways, but I dont... try to be over-polite or go out of my way to be really really nice. 'Cause I normally am nice as it is.. So yeah. haha

Do you guys have good phone manners? or do you just act/talk normal?

If I don't know who it is (like at home on our phones without caller ID) I'll try to sound more polite than usual.

The same goes for my parents' friends.

Otherwise, I am just normal on the phone.

Usually when I call someone, I say "Hi this is Allison, may I speak to blah blah?"
and my mom ALWAYS lectures me to "stay on the phone until the other person has ended the call" stubborn.gif

^ OMG YES! I haaate hate hate when people call/IM/etc and ask "Who is this?". Like uhm.. WTF? who are you?! dummmmyyy.
It is really ridiculous, I mean if you don't know who I am you could atleast say "Hey, this is so-and-so, I have your number and I'm not really sure why. Could you tell me who you are?" or something along those lines.

I've gotten so many "Who are you/Who is this?" IMs. stubborn.gif

QUOTE(brownsugar @ Jun 14 2007, 02:40 PM) *
If some number calls me and I don't know who it is, I pretty much answer the phone rudely. I don't mean to. It just comes out as a rude, "Hello?" If it's someone I know it'll be an, "Oh...hi, sorry about that". But I have had people call me from numbers I don't know, talking about, "Who is this?" I hate when people contact another person and then ask them who they are...I rather know who that person was first.

If it's a friend, I will just talk normally. If I need to be polite, I'll be polite.

I agree. Its rude to call people and ask who is this.
Im like you called me.

Talking to business/company people, I do.
When talking to my mother, i talk to her like I'm talking to my friend or something, some people are really surprised like that. When talking to friends, I always just say "later" when we're done.

Im sick and tired of getting those types of calls where I pick up and someone asks me who I am. I'm all the time saying you called me so who in the h*ll are you?
it aggravates me like crazy.

I hate when people call my home and say "who the f**k/hell am i talking to?"

I mean its not even the matter that you are calling me.But what if my bloody mum answered????You gonna still say that???

Or when i call people and they answer with "Shoot" "What" "Talk"
I am not a f**king dog.

I normally just answer with "hello", but I don't think answering the phone is my problem.
My problem is ending the conversation. Many of my friends have horrible phone etiquette. I usually have to end a conversation with them by making up some lame excuse like "Well, I'm going to go get ready for such-and-such...", or "My dad needs to use the phone, so I have to go".

It seems to work. :P

No I usually answer with, Who the hell is this? no I'm joking. I have a good manner on the phone with a hint of attitude, really depends on who I am talking to.

I sound polite. I say "Hi, May I talk with ___?". But when I answer the phone I just "Hello?". Depending on my mood my tone of voice changes.

I have to have good phone manners. I have to be "Fast, Fun and Friendly!", but in reality i'm slow, boring and way cynical.

But, if someone calls my cell phone, i'll usually answer it "SUP?!" or some ridiculous greeting.

I try to be somewhat polite. It depends if I know who it is or not. If it's someone I don't know I just answer with a polite "hello" or something.

As I usually talk in Cantonese, when I answer the phone, I say "wei?"... which is normal. I think I have okay-ish phone manners.

its usually

hello?

or the cantonese way, "wai" or "wei" if i know it's a chinese thats calling.

sometimes, if i can see the caller id, i'll just start the conversation with the person calling.

when i'm calling someone's cell, i'll usually start the conversation. if i'm calling their home i'll ask "hi, can i talk to ___?"

most of the time, its a simple hello?

Sometimes it's "Hello, ____ residence, Julia Speaking?

Or, when family from Italy calls, "Pronto? Chi Parla?" _smile.gif
