our skoo passed out the skoo newpaper 2day and there was alot of buzz about this article. its called WHY I WOULD LIKE TO BE ASIAN

it contains and perpetuates many stereotypes about asians and gerneralized all asian ethnicities. it disregards other asian ethnicities as if they were inferior or not important personally (and a majority of my friends) find this article offensive mainly due to the reason a caucasian wrote this article. (although it does have a few that arnt offensive, but a majority of them are.

wat r ur opinions about this? heres the article

dunno if this is in the rite forum, sorry. just move it if its not. pweeze forgive me.

Hahaha I actually think it's pretty funny...

My school newspaper is Zero Censorship haha. I wrote an article advocating legalizing ALL drugs. In that article I used an expletive. It was reprinted in original form, with a note attached to the end: "The Viking does not advocate or condone drug usage." Good stuff.

Haha, don't take it too seriously. I can see whre the people that take offense from it are coming from, but these are very common stereotypes.

I'm asian myself, and it's funny.

It would be crazy funny if the person who wrote it was Asian. But, just like African American people do not like to be called that 'N' word by other races but themselves, and just like Hispanics people don't like to be called Mexican when they're El Salvadorian... I found that pretty offensive myself...

But it was a good laugh.

Kind of funny...but wow, they actually printed that. Full of stereotypes and it's a little immature. hehe, but it's okay..i guess, if people don't get that offended.

But, you see, the little disclaimer box? You can't really blame the newspaper for publishing the article (though in my experience of journalism, I've never seen an article, although controverial, done so skimpily. I must say, that writer is lazy.).

i not really made at the fact that they published it, its the fact that they wrote it. and its contents.

and bout publishing it, the very fact that they put a disclaimer proves that they kno ppl will get offended by it, so y bother put it?

They're just like all of the other stereotypes. This person just had the balls to write it. Not to say iit was the smart thing to do or anything. But we all laugh at racist jokes that were meant to be jokes. You can't take everything seriously. I'm sure the writer's intent was to entertain, not offend.

Wow...uh...yeah, they aren't playing off stereotypes are they? I don't think any of those things are true...and I have several friends who are living proof of it.

it was his opinion. but still was it right to post it for everyone to see? It is a sereotype. I have a lot of asian friends who aren't exactly the brightest..the don't have glassess...they don't own a computer...or anythign like that.

Wouldn't it make other asians feel bad about themselfs if they arn't really up to those expections?

It's not so stereotyped except for that William Hung part. That was just over the fence. lol But wait.. I'm azn but then I'm dark. That does not make sense. My friend, a cambodian is also dark. Now that does not make sense. So it kinda is stereotyped but not so. _unsure.gif

well, read the disclaimer at the bottom.. haha.. i think he just wrote it for the sake of being funny, or to provide stereotypes of asians - not necessarily did he say he believes them ;o

no i'll bet the person does believe in those stereotypes. I'm black and i don't think it is really funny, but i think if i was asian n the person who wrote it was asian it would be funny, but most likely it wasn't an asian person who wrote it. But don't you realize that if that article said something against blacks or hispanic that that article would be national news? weird huh
