My brother disabled the task manager. So when we press the whole ctrl + alt + delete thing, a pop up will say the task manager was disabled. You guys know how to put it back?

What version of Windows are you using?

Edited to add:
Ok either way -

From: infopackets
* Click Start -> Run. Type in "regedit" (no quotes) and hit Enter.

* Search for HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ System.

* Look for: DisableTaskMgr. Click on REG_DWORD. Value: 1=Enable this key (disables TaskManager); Value: 0=Disable (actually enables TaskManager)

* Close RegEdit

* Reboot your machine.

Please note the name of the Key "Disable Task Manager" when Enabled will actually disable TaskManager. I know it's confusing, but please pay attention to the setting (the value 0 will enable it).

There is more detail on web site, but the above instructions should fix the problem for most home users.

And as always: make a backup of your Registry before making changes to it.

// But I have to be honest, futzing around the registry always makes me nervous.

Does anyone know of an easier way?

Right click on your windows toolbar, click "content", then edit the settings of the task manager. I hope you know what I mean.

^ sorry.
I'm using the Chinese version of Windows XP, so I don't know what it is in English. Seems like you can't directly translate wordings like these.

hey, uhh same person here. I do not know what happened.. like wtf but um my Task Manager disappeared. It wasn't disabled. It disappeared. As in, I would press ctrl, alt, delete and nothing would pop up. Not even a window that says, "Task Manager disabled". I tried redoing the steps Rebecca gave me, but when I put in "regedit" (without the quotes) on the Run thing, it says, "not available for windows 32." Help?
