this is my code for my background image

body {
background-color: 660000;
background-image: url("http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y242/brooklyneast05/Myspace/Myspace_v2_by_wireless_studios.jpg");
background-repeat: repeat y;
background-attachment: scroll;
background-position: top left
}

i want it to only be repeating down BOTH the sides, not repeating over the whole layout, how would i do that?

Both sides? Um it has to repeat all over. If your talking about how the default layouts have a background on two sides thats just a background repeating over the whole layout and you can't see half of it.

Here are your background options.
Repeat-y - Vertically
Repeat-x - Horizontally
Repeat - Everywhere.

so then
i guess to get the effect i want
my only option is to make an image
with the wood paneling on both sides, and the red in the middle, and just repeat that image all the way down the page

im wanting wood image on the sides, put the comments down the middle to have the red background

You just edit the positions in the body part.

If that doesn't work out you can make a red part only. Then make a new div. Put that as the background for that div. Make a long height. (So it goes as far down as you want) You can put text in it and make the text red so its invisible whatever your choice.

Then you can keep the wood as a body background.

Wait did that make sense?

lol hmm no not really
but ok
let me see here

when i originally started this, i had my division and at the bottom had a really long just red section, and thats where my comments were gonna be. and i think thats what ur saying, the problem i ran into though, was that i couldn't upload it in photobucket. it was too big, it could only be 800 x 600. so thats why i made my overlay the size i did. so i duno how that will work out, unless i can find somewhere i can upload bigger images

so i guess im gonna look at the positions in the body part, and see if theres someway i can make them stay where they are =/

Don't put positions in the body section, itll ruin your profile. Only align.
