Round One: A Solo Approach
 In this round, the rookie will have to think. OH NO! Yes. Think. You will need to think about HOW you want your site to look. Which means you need to get down and dirty with those pesky details. We need details! Color scheme, alignment, content, etc. etc. etc. Anything and EVERYTHING you can think of must go on this plan! E.g., a color swatch, a rough outline of the layout, etc. In addition to the plan, we need a relative header/banner. Well, maybe not relative, but rather rough. Incorporate your logo that you designed, maybe a slogan. Remember, simplicity is elegance, but be unique! Now, I say 'rough' because once you meet up with your star, your star may teach you new things that might persuade you to want to change your header. So, all in all, create a DETAILED plan, and a rough header. Try to get your headers and plan in by Saturday May 5th, 2007! PM them to Azarel or mona lisa for now. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As of now, the rookies are: I Viddy Horrorshow, mizz_americaz, Jeng, Arjuna Capulong, relaxdontrelapse, jello(:, a beautiful nothing. The stars are: ai + you, anime.essence, Gypsy Eyes, Mulder, Mooka009, disco infiltrator, x.d.o.0.f.u.s. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Since we have an equal number of rookies and stars, no one was eliminated from the preliminary round! If you want to look at the logos, they're up HERE. Enjoy!

Though I should add you don't have to make it something very professional because it'll be for a 'company'. Be creative. By the way, who are we submitting the designs to? I've been asked to clarify so I will as much as possible. Kristina means business when she says rookies will have to think.
Create a plan of your layout. If you need to make visuals, i.e., a rough sketch of the layout to help you, do that. As it's been said, you may have to make adjustments to rough is good. Make a list of all that you want to do or incorporate into your layout: the placement of the logo, the slogan if you're going to use one, and the header/banner, how many columns, use of animations/flash/etc., color scheme, content, etc. This is just off the top of my head so you're definitely not limited to these. This would all really help to pair you with the star best suited to teach you. It may be a bit vague, but that's only to give you as much freedom as possible to do what you please. Oh, and post here if you need any resources to help you plan along the way.

wait a minuteeee, I'm a bit fuzzy about the 'sketch of the layout' part thing, like do you want us to like actually make a header for the layout, ya know like thats on top of the layout and content? liek a sketch as in...sketch it out and place the images or whatever on it? rghh

Yes, you actually make the header but don't spend TOO much time on it since your star may want to give you pointers and you may make adjustments or scrap it altogether.
As for sketching the layout, that's if you want to. If it helps you visualize things better than simply making a list, then go ahead, but it isn't required. =) |

Because we received no submissions and there has been a lack of interest in Designing with the Stars (at least so far among the rookies), we'll be closing up this contest and perhaps postponing it to a later date. Sorry kids. :(

I'm sorry, i was supposed to be in this.
If you reopen this in the summer I would be 100% involved, its just right now i don't have time to design.. let alone learn how to code a website make sure you keep this idea going though! its greattt |
