Should students receive free condoms when ever needed at school?

Moved to school perhaps?

Age: 16
Gender: Female
Answer: I don't see any harm in it. I think it would promote safe sex and would keep a lot of students safe and perhaps not have so many pregnant girls walking around school. Kids in high school just aren't mature enough to get pregnant and have kids so its better to stay safe.
Place: New Bern, NC

Also asked this guy I go to school with:

Age: 16
Gender: Male
Answer:Yeah, in my opinion but not a teacher though like the nurse or some way that its more confidential itll promote "safe sex" and maybe less pregnancies and STDs even though the rate is low at preventing either
Place: New Bern, NC

To add: Even though I said yes, I could see where a problem could be waiting to happen. "But it shouldn't promote promiscuous sex because of the condom distribution"

Answer: i think they should. it's promoting safe sex. if a teacher doesn't want them in their classroom they should be able to have somewhere in their school they should go. :]

Eighteen/female/Davis, California. (lawl)

Anyway, I'm pro- on safe sex and contraception. At Davis, we get ten condoms for a dollar at the health center; at UC Santa Cruz, they get condoms for free. The RAs (Resident Advisors) in my building have had baskets of free condoms for us to take outside of their rooms before. I don't think students should have to ask a teacher, but rather have something like a basket or dispenser of some sort by the nurse's office.

Answer: Yes, I think they should be available. We have a lot of pregnant girls in my school. My school is also number 1 in the state for most reported cases of STDS. I don't think it'd be a walk up to the teacher and ask for a condom kind of deal, though.

Yes, then I wouldn't have to use money to buy them.

yes i think it would promote safe sex, and as holly said we would have less pregnant girls walking around schools. Also people are going to do it regardless so they might as well be safe.

Answer: No, it's not a good idea. It would result in the opposite of promoting safe sex, it would promote sex. Condoms then would be easier to access, and teenagers will think it's alright to have sex since they are "safe". It was tried at my school district some three years back and they stopped it...

Anyways

My answer: Yes...teens should be able to get the protection they need. Seeing like 5-6 of the girls in my senior class walking around pregnant was terribly sad. But just because I am totally for giving out condoms, it doesn't mean that they will be 100% safe. Things can happens so always be careful _smile.gif

yes, i truely believe schools should offer condoms to whoever needs it. im not saying i support early sex ESPECIALLY at a highschool level, but there are always going to be kids who feel otherwise...

Agreed. I really don't think the program would be as effective if students have to ask teachers, or ask anyone directly for that matter.

my answer: yes!! i mean no matter what, teens are going to have sex. giving out free condoms wont make kids go out and have more sex, so there shouldnt be any problem at all with that.
i think it would be so much better if teens could get free condoms at school
i cant even count how many girls have gotten pregnant at my school
they will have sex no matter what, so why not protect themselves?
