I'm starting my first formal job tomorrow!
I say formal because I've done jobs that are just like... tutoring kids for school, teaching music, kung fu, and all sorts of jazz.

Anyway, this thread.. would be for sharing memorable job experiences. And complaining about your job or just talking about being employed in general.

I used to work @ this store in our mall called Williams & Sonoma. Cookwear store pretty much. They would also cook there too during holidays. I was working there around christmas time a couple years ago and they had peppermint bark. I swiped some every day :D I mean it was samples for other people to take, so no harm.

The company I work for now (an environmental company) sent me out into the field last summer to purge monitoring wells/sample the water. I got out there at like 8 in the morning and it was 94 degrees outside. It only got hotter throughout the day. As if it couldn't be worse, it had rained the day before so it was wet and there were mosquitoes everywhere. I came home that evening after like 9 hours out there, dizzy from an excessive use of Off, and bites all over. Not such a good memory, but a strong one nonetheless :)

My first two 'real' jobs were in the food industry, so I got sick of it and now I work in retail (La Senza) and its okay...minus my manager and assistant manager. I can't stand them. They're hypocrites, a pain in the ass, and always 'right'. Ugh. Other than them, and the lack of hours I like this job. I wouldn't mind an office job right now though. Or something that pays better.

Arby's was my first job. I am never working at a fast food place again. I am now very nice to the workers when I go through the drive-thru at fast food joints.

My second job was Hollister. I still work there. My only complaints are favoritism. Some bitches get 25 hours a week when most of the other people get 4 or 8.

And finally, I work at Allstate. Not really anything to complain about there. I sit at a computer all day, deal with customers, file, fax, etc.

I totally agree with you about the fast food places thing...I try to be really nice to them now too (I worked at Tim Horton's and Panago before).
And again, the favoritism in retail. Or at least my store as well...it sucks.

I'm working at a summer camp for the second summer!! It's the most awesome experience ever! You learn so much about yourself living in the woods for 2 1/2 months!! ONLY TEN DAYS UNTIL I GO BACK! I'm sooooo excited!

I'm a waiter right now, and I really like it, to be honest.

It can be stressful, because one person's bad mood spreads pretty quickly throughout the team like wildfire, and if you make a mistake, it can be a bitch.

But it is fun, and there isn't much to dislike...

Strong memories include the hell that is being the coffee bitch on a busy evening... people are just annoying, lol.

i don't have a job.. yet. well, hopefully i'll get a job, but i really want to work at wetseal, forever21, or a cute popular clothing store like those two. too bad there aren't any around me & i'm not old enough. ;[

but, i'm a shy person, so i don't know if i can handle the cash register, which is usually why i would want to put clothes back or something. lol. ;[

okay, i'm done. but some of the jobs you guys mentioned seems like fun. :]

umm, i don't really have "formal" work experiences. :\ i've been searching for the LONGEST time though and still no luck. i've babysitted and tutored ESE students, and that's just about it. :) i'm hoping that i'll be able to find a job this summer or sometime soon for i am poor :(

I worked at Express Design Studio for 6 months (Sept. to March), and the store I worked at was the #1 highest volume of customers and top-selling in the region. Why did I mention that? I swear, at least once a week, a manager has to tell me that. Like I don't already know It's fun to work there, depending on where you're zoned. Ack working there made me hate retail because customers can be such bitches and some people are so stuck up. Because the one I worked at is the top-selling and highest volume store in the region, people get cocky and they look you up and down whenever you come to work. Reality check - I WEAR clothes from Express. I don't know why other employees are comparing what I'm wearing with what they're wearing

AND THEN I quit. I'm glad I did, because they introduced this "point system", where you are given a bad number of points for being late, a no-show, nto dressed properly, etc. What are we, children?

Hehe, yeah Tim Horton's food/coffee is amazing...even after working there, I love it! It's good stuff. Working there was definitely a pain after awhile though. 5am shifts... sigh.

My first day was today (or rather, yesterday since it's morning now).

My manager locked me in the freezer with the lights off.
Basically, I've already been adopted by the rest of the staff. yayy :) I'm the youngest one there, hahaha. And the only girl that isn't blond. After closing, it's insaneeee. They just blast music and dance and be generally obscene- while cleaning, of course!

I love my job already.

Christina, I love Express :( Some employees are rather standoffish though. Do you know if this point system was just for that store? I'd love to give a shot at working there someday, even if it does sound horrible...

Nga, I didn't have to get anything from school at all for work. Except I think I need to turn in my grades at the end of each semester... A's and B's = extra money. What state do you live in? My older brother worked at Hollister for a while and I don't think he needed to turn anything in from school either.

But it's not like I'm actually getting any of it anyway. It's all going to bills like car insurance and car gas (and I don't own a car...?). Which is what happens when your dear older brother goes to a college the family can't afford.

My first job was actually an internship at an Engineering company. If you know companies like google, it's not like that at all but they have some of the same luxuries as google. Such as a gym, a spa, 5-star meals, and I guess you can say servants.

I was interning over the summer, and I was one of the few high school kids over there so it was pretty fun for us. Did a lot of lunch-ins with the college interns and yeah great experience.

Lady- "We are remodeling in two weeks and need people who know how to use the register. I am interviewing a guy on Friday but he hasn't worked for us before, so I'll call you Friday afternoon."
Me- "Oh okay! Great!"
Lady- "MMkay, you're all set, bbye!"

I worked as an administrative assistant for quite some time. It was an okay job...just sat down most of the time, and did a few presentations and set up for a meeting. That was my first real job but it was temporary.

I then worked at a 'fast-dessert' type place which was okay, but it was a lot of work for the pay I received. >.< It was really tough.

I'm looking for a job currently...:(.

I was an intern at this law office, and it was boring. All I did was file papers alll dayyy long. Luckily, I had my own computer and my boss gave me a lot of free time, so I was able to surf the internet and talk to my friends, still.

I liked taking the elevator downstairs and walking around the streets to buy my own lunch and get my nails done. I felt so independent! :D

yea. my CIT experience was less than par, and only helped me a little bit in getting my job last year. but CITing is fun! we're having paid CIT's at my camp for the first time!

about 40 buck for 6-8 hours Mon and Thur
about 120 on Fri. :)
