Do any of you like or play classical music? I like and play classical music on piano. I play pieces by composers such as Liszt, Chopin, Alkan, Beethoven, Bach, Rachmaninoff, Gershwin, Prokofiev, Stravinsky, and Bartok. My over all favorite composer is Chopin. He has composed some of the hardest etudes for piano known to man. So, who is your favorite classical composer?

Since I can't pick a favorite, I'll go with my top 3 favorite composers...
I love Liszt's pieces, especially the Hungarian Rhapsodies- finger work is pretty tough but it all sounds amazing once everything is put together. I also adore Chopin and Beethoven, Beethoven because of the passion and emotion that soars out of his work, in particular his sonatas for piano. Oh, and I'll agree with you that Chopin's etudes are freaking hard to perform...

Ahh, I love this thread. _smile.gif

Hmmmm, hate to be a thorn in the ass but most if not all are nearly piano composers. What about wind band and orchestral composers? Few that come to my mind are Mahler, Holst, Grainger, and Perschetti.

I'll say Rossini, because nobody has mentioned him yet. And Frank Zappa, too. You just give him another 200 years to become a classic, and time shall vindicate him!

Yes, it's VERY difficult. There are four fingered chord trills, while the other finger is doing something different. That's very hard to do.

I like Wagner too, I haven't gotten around to playing any of his compositions though.
