Well first you have a doctor prescribe it to you. After that, you normally have to wait until right after your period to start it. If you take the pill, you take it everyday except when you're on your period. I don't know details about any other form of birth control.

You will have to have a pap smear first. If all goes well, your ObGyn can prescribe you bc. You really should do some research before though. There's several different types of bc. And if you smoke or drink, you need to take that into consideration as well. Also, if you're not good at taking medication on a regular schedule, you might want to consider Depo Provera. Oh and the HMO/IPA analyst in me says to make sure you find out what your benefits are beforehand. wink.gif

I didn't get a pap smear? I just went to my regular doctor and asked him to prescribe it to me!

Anyway, after you and your doctor decide which type of BC is right for you, you take it once and day, at the same time. If you skip 1 day, it is okay to double up on the next. Any more than that, it is unsafe and makes you feel like shit if you take more than two.

LOL! Really??? Most HMO/IPAs require you to have a clean "women's visit" in the calendar year you are asking for the presciption.

You are so right about the doubling up thing. It can work, but more than that can be unsafe. :(

Haha yeah, how weird is that?! I should probably go to a gyno. though. I am 18 and sexually active. I just have no clue where one is around here.

What is a pap smear again?

But whatever it is, I didn't get it either.

I'm so lucky; I haven't had ANY side effects yet.

Well..it might have lowered my sex drive..I can't like, masturbate at home anymore. It SUCKS.

You're not really on your period. The same thing happened to me. I was bleeding for about 6 or 8 weeks when I first got on birth control (or it was something like the weeks between my first and second periods while on the birth control). It should go away after your second period. If not, call planned parenthood and let them know.

Yeah. You're body just has to get used to it. Once it does, all is well thumbsup.gif

Well actually, there are the stupid, semi-embarassing side-effects _dry.gif
