Alright, well. If you don't know what boxing is, a rough definition, would be someone playing two different characters, on two different accounts, on two different computers.. At the same time.

I mean, unless you're really bored, wtf's the point?

...what's the point in spending countless hours leveling up in an imaginary universe at all?

I think it's fun, and I guess if millions are doing it.. I'm right. Or, at least not alone. I'm thinking, if you haven't played one, I suppose you really couldn't understand.

Eh I "USED TO" play World of Warcraft. Quit that mofo recently rofl. Anyways. 2Boxing can be very useful if you're leveling up an alt toon and you want help with harder tasks/quests, or if some other player keeps killing you. Certain MMO's I can see it as being pointless (see FFXI), but others such as WoW I can see it being of great use. Typically when I would do it I wouldn't make a separate account, rather I would use a friend's account or my brother's when they are offline.

I understand having a higher level character, but not playing two at the same time. Having two, or more accounts can be hectic, imo. I guess I'd transfer all of the 60's, [or 70's now.] to one account.

Anyways. Unless you have no friends to help you, or you have absolutely nothing better to do, boxing is pointless.

Oh, &I don't call it two-boxing anymore, because that just reminds me of FFXI. lawlz.

Haha so I take it you played both as well?
Yeah I actually had 2 accounts in FFXI, one for a bazaar one to play on. Wasn't only for bazaar. I used em to store stuff and move stuff around really easily when crafting etc. Man I miss that game. Never woulda quit if not for its difficulty to solo *shrug*.

I played Star Wars Galaxies and FFXI. Sadly, it was a period of no-lifeism.

Maybe when I get to college, a new MMO can come out.

But it still stands, MMOs are lame when you have to pay. =[ and when you quit a game and get to the very meat of it, you realize you wasted a hundred bucks on practically nothing. and a lot of hours, too.

Hmm. When it comes to 'wasting' money, I don't worry too much. I'd have to say, if I worried about anything being wasted, it would be my time. But, if I'm posting on cb's forums, I suppose I have too much of that, anyways.

Hmm. I had two accounts in Final Fantasy [11] for the same reason, but I never boxed with them.

And, when I played SWG, it never seemed necessary to box, or even have more than one account. But, it's best if I don't get started on that game, because the creaters ran it into the ground.

Oh, and as far as good MMO's coming out, you really should look around. The biggest MMO I'm looking forward to, is WAR. But, that's not coming out until '08. I'm playing LOTRO, and it's not bad. Age of Conan doesn't look too bad, either.

Requiem for SWG. After the chance to jedi started appearing...it was downhill from there. Played it from day 1. Had a lot of hiatus. Played it after their last revamp. Horrible.

ffs I wanna play warhammer but I don't. I have like 80 something days played on WoW which is just WAY too much. Fortunately the summer has come and like every summer, I have very little time for MMO's.
I am selling my WoW account rofl. I'm gonna make round 300$, and by selling I won't be able to play anymore (woot) and I will hopefully be able to stop myself from buying a new acct.

Only $300? I know a few people that have sold their's for a few G's. Well, one of them was like, 4k but he was a Warlock, with T5.

Warhammer looks amazing. The Order, ftw.

Ehh. If you leveled the Druid to 70, and got decent armor, you could probably get more than $300. =p

Oh, and I forgot to say, the kid that had the Lock in full T5, played on a private server, rotfl.

In games like Maple Story, boxing allows you to fully control the price of items in the market. You use a computer to buy the cheapest item of a kind available in the market, while selling it at a higher price with another account in the other computer. This way you can gain control over the lower end of the price spectrum of a particular game item and can push the top end at your own will, landing yourself obscene amounts of cash in the process while only doing minimal to medium efforts.

I'm well aware of buying things, then reselling them for more money. But.. You really don't need more than one account to do that. Well, perhaps in Maple Story, but I've never disgraced myself so much as to play such a game. =\

phh a lot of people play maple story cuz it's free lol.
I used to play diablo2/runescape cuz they were free (even though you had to buy d2 for online play). Then I upgraded to ffxi/WoW. Now I'm free *shrug*
Those games = huge timesinks.

Free MMO's are such a joke, imo. Only because every time I've tried playing one, every single town is overrun by preteens, on lagging computers, so hopped up on kool-aid, that they don't even know what they're trying to say.

That's not to say that there aren't any in MMO's you pay to play, there just aren't as much. Because, not many 13 year-olds can convince their mom's to pay a monthly fee.

.. Back to the point, boxing is lame, imo.

ffs. Boxing is a matter of personal preference / degree of interest in the game.
Boxing in certain games is indeed lame, but most there can be some very good plusses to boxing.

FFS!

Sorry, I wanted to feel cool like you. I understand that you're saying boxing can be beneficial, I've just been wondering how. No one's really told me that, so far. =[

Same way multi tasking can be :)

say you are doing something that takes an hour to get done on one toon
You can go do another thing that you want to get done that takes an equal amount of time but is quite easy and have both done in 1 hour.
You can also use the higher lvl to help you through instances/quests etc.
I know you know about that, but you said no one told you the reasons, and there they are :)

FFS FFS FFS FFS FFS :D :D :D
I could be writing Phht instead ;)

Yeah, I have two accounts. I don't play what you guys play though (I don't think). I've never been able to get into WoW, SWG or any of the more popular MMOs.

I do it for a couple of reasons. Initially I bought my alt account because there is really one server I predominately play on, and I was running out of character space. Another reason is that with the latest expansion (or upgrade), people were getting into a new aspect of the game that I'm not particularly interested in. I don't have a great deal of time to play, so I'll "box" it to help myself level toons up or get badges, especially with low level characters that do not have travel powers yet.

Really, the montly fee isn't too high, so I wouldn't consider it a financial burden at this point.

As far as the point of it all? There isn't one really, other than the fact that I really enjoy playing and building characters.

^ Again, I understand why you'd need more than one account, I have a few accounts for multiple MMO's. But, it seems lame to play both at the same time.

What on earth would you be doing, that could take an hour, on auto? Unless you're creating an assload of something, there isn't a point.

In general, unless you have no life, no friends, or nothing better to do, you don't need to box. It's just something people do.. Just because. Personally, I think people just like being able to say, "I'm boxing, leave _____ alone". Then, have ten kids flock to them in amazement, that they have more than one pc, an account, running at the same time.

You play them (or at least I play them) at the same time to help the other character out. That's why I said "I don't have a great deal of time to play, so I'll "box" it to help myself level toons up or get badges, especially with low level characters that do not have travel powers yet. " :]

Hm. I've never been in a position where I couldn't just get a friend to help me.
Not that I need the help, I just enjoy having friends around. That's why I play MMO's.. For the people.

^ Definitely. In fact, with the new expansion/upgrade/version, they brought on this new invention system and most people are farming (experience, certain types of salvage, etc) and it's resulted in less typical teaming. It's actually bringing me to the point where I don't want to play as much because, like you, it's about the teaming and about hanging out with friends (in-game). So I totally hear you on that. I might even need to switch MMOs. ermm.gif
