What do you guys think about sharing/using a Ventrilo server.

Whats ventrilo? Ventrilo
Ventrilo is something similar to... Skype, Teamspeak and many others.

I was thinking maybe us Cb'ers who have mics and are able to talk,
we can have a Ventrilo server up to chat with each other on our mics.
I mean I'd be able to maintain it, and probably assign people admin powers to keep watch of the people in the server when I'm not there.

I douno just a suggestion guys considering I use a ventrilo server I partly own.
it's good sound quality and holds up to 175 people.

Thoughts?

Ventrilo would be hilarious because none of these kids would know how to use it and they'll be like "BUT LIEK CB CHAT WORKS ANYWAYZ LOL."

I'd make a tutorial of how to set up your ventrilo client.
Screenshots and everything.

That'd certainly be generous.

Well, a Ventrilo server would certainly be something fresh for cB to have. We've been stuck with the AIM chatroom for a while now.

Is the voice quality the same, worse, or better than teamspeak? Me and my halo clan used teamspeak although I do have to say the quality sucks when comparing it to xfire's voice quality.

The same thing was done for IRC back in the day. People don't like trying new things.

^ It's not boring to some people. tongue.gif And a lot of people weren't used to it, I guess. I know I wasn't.

Eh, not really sure if this would work out or even last long. I'd give it a try, though. I'd get confused. x[

I'd say it'd be a nice mix to throw in with our AIM chatroom. But hey, if people really don't feel like trying to adapt to that, that's alright too. I'd say give it a shot though.

Mind if I ask how it's different from Skype? Forgive me, I'm such a n00b when it comes to VoIP.

For skype. Your mic is constantly on.
For ventrilo you have a hotkey you can choose to hold down and you can talk.
And theres the ability to have more people talking
as for skype the max you can have is 5 people in a conference with out paying.
As for sound quality. The ventrilo server I own is just as good as the skype quality.
I've also fixed settings in the vent server so that you won't be aggrivated at people who attempt to ruin the enjoyment of the server. Such as spamming text to speech binds.Baned.
Attempt to move in and out of channels real fast. Banned.

okay, well still I don't see what the big idea is about it all? Are you just trying to get more members to sign up for this server thing to talk to more people instead of using something else so all the cb members are using the same thing if that made any sense at all pinch.gif

I don't think it was mentioned that anything was wrong with Skype, Ventrilo is just an alternative. You don't have to sign up for it (at least I didn't). You type in a username and then use the password provided to get into a specific IP/Hostname and Port Number.

For example:

From that point, all you'll have to do is connect.

Those are really vague and cheesy examples, but maybe that will sort of give you an idea.

I typically use the left shift key as my hot key to talk. I never cared for TeamSpeak and admittedly haven't used Skype all that much.

-shrug-

I really don't care I just didn't see the big point in it all is what I'm guessing. I only use this type of thing on my phone.

There isn't a big point. He was merely making a suggestion and offering assistance.

Regardless, there's a bit more on it (in my above) post.
