The second link is not bashing, nor did he seem offended at all.

The best part was I was trying to get it back on topic, and this is how you thank me? I'm better off not helping you guys.

James, of course the guy was feeling offended, or at the least, I'm sure he didn't appreciate your comments. Why else would he have replied so negatively?

The first post: It doesn't matter if you were telling him that fact, or he was the fact of the matter; you were ridiculing him.

The first link was not offensive at all. It was defensive.

The second one was introspective. I wanted him to stop and take a look at the situation again before he continued messing up the debate.

Actually, the first link's post is rather an opinion. However, through the fact that you seemed so compelled to further your little debacle with the other guy, just furthered the "Non-Topic"-ness, Jesus felt that you/y'all needed a push to get back on topic.

The warning was justified.

Fail. Read the topic again, I was trying to tell him he was misunderstanding my posts, and even after he warned us, I still tried to bring it back on topic, and I didn't bash at all.

Um..I guess the first one could be twisted around to be that you were stating a fact. I could roll with that one. :|

Even the second one.

But I think Arjuna was clearly asking you to stick to topic, and I didn't really get the feeling that you were trying to from those posts. ermm.gif

You continued after he told you to stop, and throughout the whole conversation you WERE ridiculing him. Those two links were just bad examples.

Fail. Read my posts again after the initial warning. I spoke about the debate at hand, and I told him to bring it back on topic.

I was the good guy here, but if you don't want that, then I don't know what to do.

Explain the necessity for the insults then.

Well, you could have simply added "Yes, i'm being serious" or something to that extent on ANY of those posts.

2) See above.
3) Defensive, not offensive.
4) Are we banning sarcasm now? I'll dig up a list of sarcastic posts now.

The thing that makes those posts so insulting is that he felt that you were mocking him (which you were), which is more or less why he replied to you with such hostility.

1) "Wow that's utter fail." Insulting his statements.
2) "Are you slow or something?" Although your intention was to tell him to "take a look at the situation again before he continued messing up the debate," you said it in an insulting way.
3) Regardless of whether or not it was defensive or not, it was insulting to him; "wow is this kid for real?"
4) You were insulting his logic. Sarcastic because you can't win a national debate with an argument like that. (However, it's not the national debate bit that makes the post offensive, it's that you were insulting his logic.)

That's not member bashing, that's statement bashing. That's what happens in debates, deal with it.

No I didn't. I didn't say, wow, are you a f**king retard. Slow is the more politically correct term.

I'm asking, are you serious. That way there is no confusion. It's an expression. Deal with it.

Ok, so now we both agree that it was bashing. Because it was his statement, it would end up as insulting him. Just like if I said what Jimmy said was garbage, he would have every right to feel offended, as he was the one who produced whatever statement.

The specific words you used doesn't matter here. You were conveying the same message, which was an offensive one.

Reading comprehension dude.

I attacked what he said, not the person. That's what a debate is. If I said Jimmy, that statement is garbage, I'm not calling Jimmy garbage.

You're changing your story now. First you said I was saying it in an insulting way, which was the reason why it was bashing. But now it doesn't even matter that it wasn't insulting, because it's insulting to ask someone if they don't understand?

Flip flopping. You just said it doesn't matter, now it does matter how I say it?

Pick one thing and stick with it.

Say you called Jimmy garbage. Now you may have offended Jimmy's mother.

In the case of calling him "slow," it doesn't matter what words you were using whether it be "slow" or "retarded" because you were trying to convey the message that he was "slow."

Now where you were asking him if he was for real: sure you may have been asking him if he was serious but it was your specific choice of words that made it offensive.

The two situations are not the same.

No. Attacking a statement does not necessarily mean the person has the same characteristic as the statement they mad. Know the difference, it could save your life.

Yes I do, his response wasn't negative, and in fact, he admitted that it was laziness on his part.

Ok James. This appears to be a matter of whether or not he really did get offended.

Your statements can be twisted for and against you. So I suppose the best way to come to a conclusion would be for him to testify.

If he happens to not want to testify, then sure, we can keep going.

Apparently you're insulting me right now.

His point was awful and based on fallacy, I informed him, and he took it badly.

Anyway, if this stands, I'm going to find some more posts like mine that you can warn the people about ok?
