From the magezine Seventeen. None of these excerpts are my words, just what Ive decided to share with the girls of cB who consistently post topics asking about breast abnormality. This, should cover most of what you should know. Not all, but most. Feel free to add !
Breasts 101 Despite what mammary-obsessed guys might think, the biological reason a girl grows breasts is to prepare her body to feed a baby. No worries: Small breasts can make as much as big ones ! Breasts: The fleshy part is made of fat cells, milk ducts, and tissue that supports the ducts. Nipples: These are made of skin and nerve endings. All the breast's milk ducts lead to the nipples, and babies feed by sucking on them. Areolas: These darker-colored circles of skin around the nipple are there to draw a baby's eye for feeding. Small bumps areound the areola ( Montgomery's glands ) lubricate the skin during breast feeding. Breast size is determined by heredity - not by how early you start developing. #1. There are many ways breasts can differ and still be normal, but if you're ever unsure, visit your doctor just in case. ( If anyone feels these pictures should be removed, PM me or a mod, or if i mod feels they should be removed, then please feel free to do so ) ![]() Size and Shape Each breasts develops at its own rate; fully grown ones can even be different sizes. But if they differ by more than two cup sizes - or if one is tubular - see a doctor. It may signal a hormone imbalance. ![]() Hair It's fine to have a few wispy hairs on the areola. But if you have about 10 or more on either breast, or if any are bristly, see a doctor. It could be polycystic ovary syndrome (it's treatable) ![]() Nipple variations Nipples can project out or be inverted - both are normal. But if a nipple that was projecting out inverts or leaks fluid or blood, see a doctor. It could be an infection or a noncancerous tumor. ![]() Stretch Marks As breasts grow, skin fibers can stretch and snap, forming stretch marks - they're normal and may fade in a year. Try drugstore cream like Mederma or a prescription like Retin A to speed the fading process. #2 Are they done growing ? Whats normal Breasts start growing about two years before a girl gets her period and take three to five years to develop. After that, breast size can be affected by weight gain or loss. If your areolas haven't started to protrde by the time your 13, talk to your doctor #3 What's that lump ? Fibrocystic lump These tender, soft cysts form the week before your period and fade as it starts. No need to see a doctor. Fibroadenoma This is w firm limp that doesn't go away during your period. It's likely a harmless clump of tissue, but see a doctor just in case. Tumor It's rare, but a hard lump that stays may be a tumor. See a doctor, but dont freak. Fewer than 1% of lumps in young women are cancerous. |

But if they are seriously like, tubular and look like the ones in the image provided, and youre worried, ask your mom and ask a doctor (: |

So if your boobs start devolping like 2 years before your period than I should be getting my period like really soon. I started getting boobs in the 6th grade and now im in the8th grade. (yah, im in the 8th grade and i dont have my period) Is that true for everyone because one of my friends is like flat-chested and she got her period like a month ago?

Boobs usually get bigger after you're pregnant (but that's really far away for all of us, eh? ;D).
And for girls complaining about their flatness, um well. Try different foods and see what it does o_o |

I got really sweaty one day because we had to run a lot in the sun in PE, and afterwards these little bumps, almost like goose bumps but not quite, came up kind of just by the armpit area and a little above. If you scratched them a tiny bit of water came out. In certain lights the bumps even looked white.
They're gone now but... I was wondering what they were. |
