i was thinking about becoming a doctor until i heard about how hard it is for international students to get into pre-med in the states (yet alone how hard it is for anybody to get in) :( eh... i really want to, though.

what kind of classes should i plan on taking in high school / what should my average gpa be if i want to become something like a clinical psychologist?

I'm so confused when it comes to college and deciding on a major.

Possible options:
- Oncologist (would make the biggest impact, and i'd be helping people. it would give my life more purpose)
- Cardiologist (same as above)
- Photography (my passion... doesnt pay well at all though)
- Web Design (another passion)
- Engineering (what my dad wants me to do lol)
- International affairs / foriegn relations
- German language/culture
- Stay at home mommy/housewife. (easiest option) laugh.gif

Oncology, Cardiology, or Engineering are my top 3, but I'm worried that it would be too hard to get through school. I'd be looking at 8 years ++ for Medical school. Engineering wouldnt be too bad though. I'm just so lazy... I cant see myself doing anything. sad.gif

Woah, its only been a few months... and I've already changed my mind. Completely.

Revised plan:
- Nursing (at least a bachelors degree). Possibly a oncology nurse?
- Engineering
- Buisness (more realistic - but seems boring?)

Eeek I need help/ideas/suggestions. _unsure.gif

It depends what you wanna do. What would you feel more happier doing? Helping doctors save and help lives, helping the community or have an boring job with good pay?

Yeah, I've thought about going into business as well. Maybe even law.

Photography is just so insecure as a career.

Yeah, it is. That's originally what I wanted to do, until I realized how rough the pay can be. It seems almost impossible to make a decent living off it. sad.gif

Well, something like buisness would definately be the easiest option for me, especially getting through school. I've always been good at math and with computers. But, I know I could never handle sitting behind a desk all day at work. I'd go insane. I think I'd have to have a job that's unpredictable; you know, something that wouldnt be boring.

So that's why I've been considering nursing. It pays REALLY well...and, I think I'm the caring, motherly type by nature. AND, I'd be helping people. That's the best part. I'd love to specialize in something. Maybe Oncology? Seeing people with cancer hits me harder than anything else. I hate to see people suffer, but I would love to be able to brighten up someones day, and help them. I just can't imagine how I'd feel / react when a patient I knew passed away. So because of that, I dont think I could handle oncology, or any other type of nursing. sad.gif

I'm going into the Air Force and I'm going to be trained in the field of Electronics Avionics. Shweet.

Then eventually I want to become a pilot. So, that's my career choice.

I wanted to do that, too. And honestly, if my vision wasn't so poor, there's no doubt I'd be in the Air Force right now. But my lousy vision precludes me from ever obtaining military flight certification.

My friend's brother works in the air force. It's pretty cool. Eh, my father works as a taxi driver, he wants me to take over as well--but I have poor vision just like you Michael.

I'm in the process of declaring my major thumbsup.gif but it'll be incredibly tough to crack into the music industry and classical composing.

You're all assuming the poster is a "she", probably because the poster exhibited poor spelling.

Why not? Just out of curiosity.

I feel like there's no particular reason that I want to go to college. If I were to go, it would be simply because all my friends were doing it and my parents wanted me to. The last thing I want to do is waste my money on that.

But I thought you would need certain certificates from college to be qualified for certain jobs.

Career shadowing? I want to be able to do that SOOO bad. Tell me how it goes. I've never really heard of a desktop publisher, but it somehow reminds me of a graphic designer.

It was kind of disappointing, i learned nothing. _unsure.gif I went to my local extremely small town newspaper and the guy kind of didn't really know what to do with us. He didn't have anything planned. Once he even said "hmm, what to doo" and he had us sit in a room while he checked his email. :\
I wanted to see all the printing technologies and stuff but they do that in another town, he told me. ermm.gif

And desktop publishing is pretty similar to graphic design _smile.gif

"Certain" being the key word here. There are countless successful people who didn't go to college. Instead, they used their talents/skills and made something out of it by working hard and staying determined. That doesn't always equate to going to college.
